A 55-year-old man has been charged in connection with messages sent to Lincolnshire's chief fire officer after the brigade dropped Fireman Sam as their mascot.
Jeremy Flashman of King's Road, Southminster, Essex is accused of sending malicious messages to Les Britzman over the decision.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service said the children's TV character was outdated and did not reflect the message it wanted to achieve.
Mr Britzman said Fireman Sam would be replaced with fire extinguisher-shaped mascots called Freddy, Filbert and Penelope.
Mr Flashman is due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates' Court on the October 31.
