  1. More flood barriers installed in Bewdley

    More flood barriers are being installed in Bewdley, Worcestershire, today.

    Bewdley suffered widespread flooding last year when river levels rose and poured over the top of barriers in Beales Corner.

    The Environment Agency had already put up temporary barriers in the town earlier this week, with Beales Corner among the sites.

    The latest are being placed along the south side of the River Severn.

  2. Increase in flood warnings across the West Midlands

    Dozens of flood warnings are in place in the West Midlands today with river levels still rising after this week's heavy rain.

    Fifteen are in Staffordshire, 10 in Herefordshire, eight in Shropshire and six in Worcestershire.

    The Environment Agency says it expects river levels in most cases to peak later on Thursday.

  3. Weather: Overnight flooding

    The effects of Storm Christoph are being felt in the West Midlands this morning, with flooding - and rescues - emerging overnight.

    Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire are the affected counties.

    People in parts of Shropshire are being warned of icy conditions until at least 10:00. The Met Office has a yellow weather warning in place.

  4. Weather: Flooding alert with more rain forecast

    A yellow weather warning for rain remains in place across the West Midlands with the Met Office warning of possible flooding and disruption to transport.

    Along with the outbreaks of rain there will be brisk southwesterly winds and it will feel mild with a high of 11C/52F.

    More heavy rain is forecast tonight, increasing the risk of flooding but it should clear in the early hours leaving most places dry with clear spells. Low: 4C/39F.

  5. Heavy rain expected to bring travel disruption

    Spells of prolonged and heavy rain are set to cause travel disruption across the West Midlands, the Met Office is warning.

    Homes and businesses are also at risk of flooding, it said.

    The wet weather is expected to affect the region from late on Tuesday into early Thursday as Storm Christoph affects the UK.

    A yellow warning has been issued.

  6. Fifth of mask fines handed out by West Mercia force

    The Local Democracy Reporting Service in Worcestershire has been covering these stories:

    • More than a fifth of fines handed out by police in England and Wales for people not wearing face masks have been issued by the West Mercia force. Figures from the National Police Chiefs Council show force officers issued 196 fines between 27 March and 20 December out of a total of 952 across the two nations.

    • Dozens of homes could be built on farmland in a Worcestershire village under new plans. A developer wants to demolish a cottage and outbuildings on the site on Woodhall Lane, Ombersley, and has submitted an application to Wychavon District Council.
    • A plan to build affordable housing on a former golf course looks set to be approved. Worcester City Council's planning committee will consider the proposals for part of the old Tolladine course on Thursday.
  7. Weather: Turning cloudy with rain later

  8. Hope for cancer treatments to resume

    Some operations for cancer patients could resume next week in Worcestershire.

    The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust postponed all non-urgent operations last weekend to focus on urgent and emergency care.

    Last week it only dealt with two "major cancer cases".

    Paul Brennan, chief operating officer, said it was now working with the independent sector to start to get back up to speed with some cancer procedures.

    He hoped to resume some treatments from Monday.

  11. Minor injury units close as staff redeployed

    The minor injury units in Malvern, Evesham and Tenbury have been closed until the end of February as staff are redeployed to community hospitals.

    The Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, which runs the units, said the increased demand for healthcare workers was a "combination" of Covid-19 and other factors.

    It's forecast to be overcast and cold again today, with temperatures not rising much higher than 5C (41F).
