Flooding has closed the rail lines between Hebden Bridge and Manchester Victoria, with commuters urged to make alternative arrangements.

Heavy rain is causing disruption across the region and customers are advised to allow extra time for travel and to check ahead.

Other routes affected include:

  • Flooding at Walsden has blocked the line between Manchester Victoria and Leeds
  • Flooding at Culcheth Farm is causing delays and cancellations to services between Eccles and Earlestown. Northern tickets will be accepted on TransPennine Express services.
  • Due to flooding at Blackpool South there are currently no services travelling to and from St Annes. Replacement coaches will be in use

Flood warning issued in Rochdale as River Roch levels rise

A flood warning has been issued for the River Roch in Rochdale.

River levels are rising at the Albert Royds Bridge and flooding of low lying land, roads and farmland is expected.

There is also a risk of flooding from Roch Valley Way to Yorkshire Street and Albert Royds Street, the Environment Agency has said.

Floods cause major rail disruption in North West

Heavy rain is causing major disruption on railways in the region.

All lines are blocked between Todmorden and Rochdale due to rain flooding the railway, Northern has tweeted.

Walker, 70, injures shoulder in fall

Volunteers from the Cockermouth mountain rescue team and the North West Air Ambulance were called in after a 70-year-old walker fell, injuring her leg and shoulder, close to the 2,400ft summit of Robinson, overlooking Buttermere.

The woman was flown down to an ambulance in Keswick and then taken to the Cumberland Infirmary at Carlisle for treatment.
