Four sheep killed in suspected dog attack

David Pittam

BBC News Online

A dog savaged and killed four sheep in an attack on a field, a Derbyshire farmer said.

Sheep farmer Carly Bacon said her partner disturbed a brown dog eating one of their lambs at about 08:00 on Wednesday.

She said it had gone on a "killing spree" and killed one lamb and a sheep, with two more lambs dying later of stress from the attack.

Miss Bacon said her vet confirmed a dog attack was "highly likely" and added that she was "petrified" the dog would come back.

She said: "There's the monetary loss, the amount of time we had to put in to them - but my two kids are gutted too, they hand reared one of them.

"It's awful, absolutely awful and I want the owner to know what their pet has done."

Police are now investigating, as allowing your dog to worry sheep is a crime, and have appealed for information.

Controversial Sheffield strip club has licence renewed

Sheffield strip club Spearmint Rhino will have its Sexual Entertainment Licence renewed despite calls for it to be revoked.

Campaigners had argued the venue, in Brown Street, should have its licence removed and, last month, a council investigation into claims dancers were performing sexual acts found evidence of 74 licence condition breaches and 145 of the club's code of conduct rules had been broken.

Despite the objections Sheffield City Council's licensing committee ruled in favour of renewing the permit for another year following an eight hour meeting yesterday.

A council spokesperson said: "The decision of the Licensing Sub-Committee was to grant the renewal application for Spearmint Rhino Sheffield.

"Members heard a wealth of information both against and in support of the application and spent a lot of time examining this alongside the documentary evidence.

"The determination notice containing the full reasons for the decision will be available soon."

The Volvo was left stranded in lane one of the southbound carriageway between junctions 28 and 29 last night.

Derbyshire Police's roads policing unit said a lorry failed to see it in time and hit it, destroying the rear section.
