Merseyside's fire authority has approved plans to add 22 firefighters to their ranks along with four extra appliances after the public backed the proposals.

The death of a porpoise whose bloodied remains were found close to a beach in Birkenhead is being investigated by the RSPCA.
The charity said it was discovered next to a blood-stained rock and metal pole at Port Sunlight River Park on 28 June.
RSPCA inspector Anthony Joynes said: “The area where the body was discovered is high up on rocks and even at high tide the body is positioned 32ft (10m) above sea level so it is impossible that it got there on its own - it must have been carried."

A man in his 20s was stabbed in a "targeted attack" in Prescot, police have said.
