There is growing speculation that South Africa's official opposition leader, the Democratic Alliance's Mmusi Maimane, is about to announce his resignation at a press conference.
This follows the resignation of Herman Mashaba as both mayor of the commercial capital, Johannesburg, and DA member on Monday. He stepped down from the historically white party over how it handles race issues.
On Monday, Mr Maimane, the party’s first black leader, stood side-by-side with Mr Mashaba and proclaimed “You are my hero!”
Mr Mashaba, a self-made businessman who joined politics late in life, said he resigned because of the election of former party leader Helen Zille to the second most senior position in the party. He said "a right-wing" element which is anti his pro-poor agenda is taking over the party
A press conference called by the DA leader is due to start any minute from now.
