Footballer's father shocked at Nice attack

The father of Northern Ireland international Aaron Hughes, who was in Nice last month for the Euros, said his memories of the city were of "pure happiness". Ronnie Hughes said the news of the attack was "a total shock".

However, he insisted that he won't be deterred from visiting Nice again: "We certainly will go back. We even talked about making our holiday there next year," he said.

A Belfast man who was nearby when a truck collided with crowds in Nice, killing at least 84, has described the aftermath as "absolute pandemonium".

Four arrested for suspected drugs offences

Police have arrested two women and two men on suspicion of a number of drugs offences. 


The women, aged 20 and 39, and the men, aged 26 and 40, were detained after two cars were stopped by police in Portadown yesterday evening.  Suspected Class B drugs and cash was recovered.

Samurai sword killer to serve minimum 14 years

A Belfast man will serve a minimum of 14 years in prison for the murders of two men, including a leading UDA figure. Albert Armstrong admitted killing Colin 'Bap' Lindsay, 47, and Stanley Wightman, 52 in July last year.

Both men were found in the living room of Mr Lindsay's bungalow in the Belvoir estate. They suffered severe wounds inflicted by a Samurai sword.

The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and the Irish Embassy in France have expressed "serious concern" for an Irishman caught up in the Nice attack.

Man arrested following incident on board flight

A 30-year-old man has been arrested following an incident on board a Northern Ireland-bound flight. He was arrested at George Best Belfast City Airport yesterday afternoon on suspicion of acting in a disorderly manner and endangering the safety of an aircraft.
