Pastor 'never prosecuted' over abuse, HIA inquiry told

A religious minister has never been prosecuted despite admitting abuse linked to a state-run home in Belfast, the Historical Institutional Abuse inquiry has heard.

The pastor told police in the 1980s that he abused a boy who was being cared for at the former Bawnmore children's home in north Belfast.

Belfast priest 'won't be deterred' by threats

Fr Gary Donegan says he won't be deterred from community work or from challenging paramilitaries in north Belfast, despite being warned by police that he is under threat.

He told the BBC's Evening Extra programme he believes he's being targeting by dissident republicans. But he said it's not the first time he's received threats and would continue to "hold people to account".

A protest is under way at Stormont where a controversial oil well is to be debated by politicians this evening.

A group of activists opposed to the exploratory well near Carrickfergus claims the drill poses a risk to the water supply to homes. But Northern Ireland Water insists there is no threat.

Jury chosen for Belfast boxer's murder trial

A jury has been sworn in for the trial of a man accused of murdering west Belfast boxer Eamonn Magee Jr.

The 22-year-old died on 30 May last year from stab wounds. The accused, Orhan Koca of no fixed address denies murder. 

'Threats made' against Belfast priest - Sinn Féin

Sinn Féin has claimed that more than a dozen community workers, including Belfast priest Fr Gary Donegan, have been warned by the police that they are under threat from an armed gang.

Fr Donegan, a priest at Holy Cross parish in north Belfast, recently spoke out about paramilitary threats and condemned the murders of two men in the city. The police said they "do not discuss the security" of any individual or group.

May 2016 was warmer and drier than average in Northern Ireland and had "above average sunshine" according to Armagh Observatory.

Titanic challenges European tourism giants

Titanic Belfast has been nominated to become Europe's Leading Visitor Attraction at the World Travel Awards, alongside Buckingham Palace, La Sagrada Familia, the Eiffel Tower and the Roman Colosseum.

Journalists here can now use live text-based forms of communication, including social media and email, from courts following clarification from the Lord Chief Justice's Office.
