  2. Lyric Theatre appoints Special new resident

    The Lyric Theatre in Belfast has appointed Duke Special as its new artist-in-residence.

    As part of his residency he will write a musical adaptation of Huckleberry Finn, which will be performed in the Lyric in spring 2017.

  3. Belfast artist paints Merkel for Time Magazine

    Belfast artist Colin Davidson has painted the German Chancellor Angela Merkel for the cover of Time Magazine.

    Ms Merkel has been named the magazine's 'Person of the Year'. He told told the BBC the invitation from Time was "something you don't turn down." 

  4. Paul McCauley murder: Man released unconditionally

    A 26-year-old man who was arrested in Coleraine yesterday by detectives from Serious Crime Branch investigating the murder of Paul McCauley in 2006 has been released unconditionally.

    The civil servant was 29 when he was attacked by a mob at a barbecue in the Waterside in Derry in 2006, and never regained consciousness. He died in July this year.

  5. Man seriously injured in tractor accident

    A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a tractor accident.

    It is understood the tractor fell on him at about 14:30 this afternoon. He was taken to the South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen. 

  6. Man in critical condition after explosion

    The man who was injured after a 40 gallon drum exploded in an industrial estate in north Belfast is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital.


    He is in a critical condition.

  7. Donaldson family take action against police

    The family of Sinn Féin official and republican informer Denis Donaldson is to take legal action against the garda in the European Court in Strasbourg.

    They accuse the Irish police of failing to properly investigate his killing in a remote cottage in County Donegal in April 2006, and allegations that PSNI officers may have contributed to his death.

  9. Man found not guilty of killing baby in crash

    A former student accused of causing the death of a 19-month-old baby in Janury 2013 has been found not guilty.

    John Fahy, 25, from County Sligo was acquitted of causing death and grievous bodily injury by careless driving in connection with the crash on the Boa Island Road in County Fermanagh.

  10. Explosion involved '40 gallon drum'

    A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service says the explosion at the Edenderry Industrial Estate involved a 40 gallon drum.


    They say: "Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service received a call at 12:27pm to a report of an incident at business premises at the Crumlin Road area of north Belfast this afternoon. One man had been taken to a nearby hospital before firefighters arrived at the scene."

  11. Man injured in oil drum explosion

    A man has been injured in an oil drum explosion at an industrial estate in north Belfast. 

    The incident happened at the Edenderry Industrial Estate on the Crumlin Road this afternoon. The man is believed to have suffered minor injuries in the incident. The Health and Safety Executive is investigating.
