  8. Van Gogh: 'Technical glitches' delay York projections

The UK premiere of a projection display featuring the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh, which was set to take place in York, has been delayed due to "a few technical glitches".

    The Van Gogh projection display

The exhibition, at St Mary's Church in York, was due to start earlier, but has now been delayed, organisers said.

Creative director, Mario Iacampo, said the delay was due to issues with some of the "cutting edge technology" used to project the images onto the walls.

He was confident Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience would be fixed, and said the display will open on Monday.

  9. Scarborough flats scheme for medics and students unveiled

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

Plans for a new block of flats for students and trainee medics have been unveiled as part of a major regeneration project in Scarborough.

    Former Argos building

The former Argos building in Newborough (pictured) is to be torn down and replaced with student accommodation and shops on the site once earmarked for a new cinema development.

The scheme has been drawn up by Scarborough Council, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Coventry University, which has a campus in Scarborough.

Council leader Steve Siddons says this is the first stage of the regeneration of Scarborough town centre.

He'll present his plans to councillors next week as he looks for their backing for the scheme.

Mr Siddons says: “This could regenerate and rejuvenate the lower town and uplift the area’s economy.”

If approved, the council hopes to have the development open for students in 2020.

  10. Car check cannabis smell leads to drugs arrest

Drugs and a knife have been found in a car being driven erratically in York, police say.

    Fourth Ave

Officers say a check of the vehicle spotted on Fourth Avenue in Tang Hall led to an arrest for intent to supply illegal drugs and a knife taken off the streets.

Two Police Community Support Officers were on patrol when they spotted a suspicious black Fiat Punto on Fourth Avenue in Tang Hall being driven erratically.

Officers say the driver, an 18-year-old man, was then found to be driving without insurance and without a licence.

Due to a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle, it was searched, and another of its occupants, a 17-year-old boy, was found to be in possession of drugs and a knife.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A and class B drugs, possession with intent to supply class B drugs, and possessing a knife in a public place.

The car was seized by police and the 17-year-old remains in custody.
