  1. Dan Jarvis keeps seat and can bid for mayor role

    Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis will be allowed to stand in the Sheffield City Region mayoral election and remain as an MP.

    Labour's ruling National Executive Committee had previously ruled that he would have to stand down as an MP if he wanted to run.

    A Labour source revealed that both parties had come to an agreement over the weekend and Mr Jarvis would be able to remain in his parliamentary seat.

    Severe disruption: M18 South Yorkshire northbound

  3. Travel: Flooding causing problems on some train services

    Northern says services there are problems on the line from Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield and Leeds.

    The operator says all lines have now reopened following flooding on the railway between Mirfield and Leeds.

    Trains between Huddersfield and Leeds may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 15 minutes. Disruption is expected to continue until 11:30.

    TransPennine Express has issues on routes between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle and Scarborough, and on services from Manchester International Airport to York and Middlesborough.

    There are also problems between Manchester Piccadilly and Hull.

    TransPennine Express are running replacement buses for customers at Dewsbury station.

    They're reminding passengers that journey times will be longer than by rail.

  4. LISTEN: Events to combat Islamaphobia

    A series of events will be held across Yorkshire today to tackle Islamaphobia.

    It comes after flyers were sent to homes across the country calling for 'Punish a Muslim' day and encouraging people to harm followers of Islam.

    Shahab Adris is the regional manager for the Muslim Organisation Mend and has this advice.

  5. Runners dig deep to complete coal carrying race

    Competitors took part in a race at the annual World Coal Carrying Championships in the village of Gawthorpe, near Wakefield yesterday.

    The World Coal Carrying Championships, which began in 1963, takes place on Easter Monday and challenges participants to race with a sack of coal for just over one kilometre to secure the best time.

    The event features men's and women's races with men carrying 50kg of coal and women 20kg in weight.

    To finish the sack of coal must be dropped on the village green where the traditional Maypole is situated in the heart of Gawthorpe.

  6. Car recovered from flood waters in Rotherham

    A car has been recovered from flood water in Rotherham.

    The vehicle was successfully recovered after the River Dearne burst its bank and flooded part of Station Road in the Bolton upon Dearne area:

  7. LISTEN: Gas returns to two thirds of properties in Silsden

    Northern Gas Networks says over two thirds of households in Silsden near Keighley have now had their supply reconnected after a contractor damaged the gas main on Friday.

    Almost 4,000 properties were disrupted over the Easter weekend.

    Paul Sadler is the operations manager and says he's confident every property will have a gas supply by the end of today.

  8. Travel: Roads closed due to flooding and snow

    A656 Barnsdale Road at Allerton Bywater is closed in both directions due to flooding between Station Road and William Street.

    A6024 Woodhead / Holme Moss Road closed due to snow between A635 Greenfield Road (Holmfirth) and A628 Woodhead Pass (High Peak).

    A6025 Elland Road, Brighouse - slow traffic and partially blocked due to flooding on A6025 Elland Road at Brookfoot Lane. Also affecting Brookfoot Lane at A6025 Elland Road.

    Cattal Moor Lane, Cattal - hazardous driving conditions due to flooding on Cattal Moor Lane near Ox Moor Lane. Approach with care.

    A57 Sheffield Parkway - A57 Sheffield Parkway into town exit slip road closed due to flooding at Manor Lane.

    Dearne Road, Bolton Upon Dearne - Dearne Road is closed in both directions closed due to flooding between Station Road and Mill View.

  9. Ripon 'hit and run' incident - Police find car and driver

    Police investigating a suspected hit and run incident in Ripon say they have now traced the vehicle and driver believed to be involved.

    The incident happened in the early hours of Easter Sunday.

    A man in his 60s suffered serious head injuries.

    A dark-coloured BMW allegedly hit a stationary taxi and the man who was standing nearby.

    North Yorkshire Police say the driver is due to be interviewed.

  10. LISTEN: York's Foss Barrier is activated to deal with flood waters

    The Foss Barrier in York has been activated this morning as river levels rise on the River Ouse following heavy rain over the Easter weekend.

    North Yorkshire has seven flood warnings in place.

    Holgate Beck and riverside properties along the River Foss in York are among the places where the Environment Agency warns immediate action is required.

    However it says the situation is not as bad as 2015.

  11. Leeds triathlete Alistair Brownlee to carry England flag

    Leeds triathlete Alistair Brownlee will carry the cross of St George flag at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.

    Two-time Olympic champion Brownlee, 29, will lead the 390-strong England team at Wednesday's ceremony at the Carrara Stadium on Australia's Gold Coast.

    Brownlee won the triathlon in Glasgow four years ago and will defend his title the day after carrying his country's flag.

    "It is a massive honour," he said.

    "I can't imagine what it will feel like walking into the stadium with the cross of St George, alongside all the other Commonwealth nations.

    It is certainly going to be up there as one of the moments in my career that I will always remember."

  12. Firefighters called in to help with rising flood water

    Fire crews in North Yorkshire have been helping some residents after overnight flooding.

    A team from Helmsley used a Light Portable Pump to remove flood water from a property where the electrics were being affected at Gilling East.

    Another crew from Easingwold removed flood water from a house on Towthorpe Road near Strensall where the electrics were also affected by the rising water.

    A weekend of rain has led to flood warnings across Yorkshire.

    Some areas around the River Aire, the Calder, the Foss, the Ouse and the Derwent have warnings in place.

  13. LISTEN: Barnsley pulls out the stops for Tour de Yorkshire

    There's just a month to go until the start of this year's Tour De Yorkshire.

    The event is part of a 10-year legacy of the Tour de France which came to the region in 2014.

    Doncaster will host the end of day one.

    The riders will set off from Barnsley on day two.

    Matthew Mitchell is the Arts and Events manager for Barnsley Council.

    He says that preparations to make it a memorable day are well under way.

  14. LISTEN: Cancer diagnosis centres at two hospitals

    Two special centres to speed up cancer diagnosis are being set up in West Yorkshire.

    The idea is to help catch cancer early in people who don't have obvious symptoms.

    Ten of these centres are being opened at hospitals across England as part of an NHS pilot project.

    The hospitals include St James's in Leeds and Airedale General in Keighley.

  15. Svitlana Krasnoselska: New searches for Micklefield woman

    New searches are to be carried out for a woman who disappeared "without a trace" from her home a year ago.

    Svitlana Krasnoselska, originally from Ukraine, was last seen in Micklefield, Leeds, at 05:00 BST on 3 April 2017.

    Ms Krasnoselska, who was 40 at the time she went missing, had lived in the UK for 12 years and has a daughter.

    West Yorkshire Police said additional search areas around Micklefield had been identified and teams will visit these in the coming days.

  16. Homes and firms told to prepare for possible flooding

    There are 31 flood warnings across Yorkshire at the minute.

  17. 31 flood warnings in place for Yorkshire

    Following heavy rain over the Easter weekend many rivers across the region at a very high level.

    The Environment Agency says they sounded the flood siren in Todmorden as the Calder continued to rise.

    There are flood warnings in place on several stretches of that river this morning.

    In York, The Foss Barrier is not currently operating, but the Environment Agency says it will be activated later as the River Ouse rises.

    The River Foss has a flood warning in place for the stretch from Yearsley Baths to Strensall, Holgate Beck and Osbaldwick Beck.

    There are also warnings in place for parts of the River Derwent in North Yorkshire.
