Man charged after having an imitation gun

A man's been charged with possessing an imitation firearm after an incident in Rotherham on Wednesday.

Matthew James Hirst, 24, from Schofield Street, Mexborough, was also charged with intent to cause fear of violence.

It comes after an incident in Avenue Road in Wath-upon-Dearne where a man was reportedly seen with a firearm.

Police are still questioning a 34-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the death of a man at a house in Harehills in the early hours of yesterday morning.

West Yorkshire Police said they were called to a property, next to St James's Hospital, by the ambulance service at about 01:30 GMT on Sunday.

The £100m deal announced last week affects the 1,700 workers based in their Stocksbridge, Rotherham and Brinsworth plants. 

Tata said the deal with Liberty House Group was an "important step" in securing the long-term future of the business.

Steel union Community said the agreement was a "welcome step forward".

Dog rescued after poachers abandon animal

North Yorkshire police have rescued a dog from what they say is an abandoned car in Castley after poachers left it behind.

They say the dog, which was found near Harrogate, is at a safe kennel and they're hoping to re-home it.

A man has died after being found with serious injuries this morning outside a pub in Leeds.

Police were called at 11:00 to the Old Red Lion pub on York Road.

A 32-year-old man had been found with serious injuries. He was pronounced dead a short time later. 

Officers say the death is not being treated as suspicious and the Coroner's Office has been informed.

Two children had to be rescued from a steep canal bank in Todmorden at the weekend.

The children had been playing on the bank and exploring in the area, but then found they couldn't climb back up.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called out and they used an inflatable "sled" to get them off the bank.

The children were treated by ambulance crews.

More than nine million tune in to Shannon Matthews drama

Official viewing figures, released today, show that 9.5 million people tuned into watch the first episode of the Shannon Matthews drama "The Moorside".

The show is based on the kidnapping of Shannon Matthews in 2008. Her mother Karen was later found guilty of faking her disappearance. 

More than 40% of households tuned in to watch it last week, and in total 16% of the country saw it.

The next episode is on BBC One at 21:00 tomorrow night.

Volunteers needed to make 'gigantic jersey' for Tour de Yorkshire

If you're handy with a needle and thread, then you might be able to help out the organisers of the Tour de Yorkshire.

They're looking for people to help create a gigantic jersey for the event, which will stand 12 meters tall and be as wide as the length of a lorry.

The finished product will sit on the hillside overlooking the Tour de Yorkshire Stage One finish in Scarborough’s North Bay on Friday 28 April. 

Organisers want about 2,000 people of different ages and backgrounds to get involved in making the jersey which will then become a giant canvas for pictures and messages.
