'Drugs valued at £1,284,000 seized over six months'
Drugs with a street value of more than £1m have been seized by Cleveland Police during the past six months.
Amphetamine, cannabis resin, cocaine and heroin were recovered across the force area, and a number of cannabis farms were raided.
The street value of the drugs came to an estimated £1,284,000.
Cleveland's Police and Crime Commissioner,
Barry Coppinger, said: “Drugs and the associated antisocial behaviour can make
the lives of local residents a misery.
"I hear of cases like these at the
community meetings I attend and I am very pleased to be able to feedback on the
good work that is being carried out right across Cleveland to tackle these
problems.
"The dedication of the drugs team and officers across the force in
tackling drugs is very valued."
The final stage of the restoration of Fulwell Windmill in Sunderland is due to start soon.
Sunderland City Council said scaffolding is now in place which will allow craftsmen and millwrights to build a new cap, fantail and sails by the end of the year.

Cleveland Police said a black Vauxhall Corsa hit several parked cars at Wynyard Road shops near Catcote Road at about 09:00 yesterday.

A spokeswoman said the 34-year-old female driver of the vehicle left the scene but was later located and taken to hospital suffering from a broken collarbone.Officers are appealing for witnesses.

Low Light Heritage Centre in North Shields.

by the Port of Tyne's predecessors, the Tyne Improvement Commission, two
paintings from the collection are to be included in the centre's latest
exhibition which explores the
history of the North Shields Fish Quay.

The centre piece of the exhibition is the painting The Mouth of the Tyne by John Carmichael, which captures the famous Tyne whaler Lady Jane in 1847 sailing into North Shields before the piers were constructed.
Susan Wear, Port of Tyne director of corporate affairs, said: “The paintings reveal a glimpse into the past and the history of the river. They are usually on display at our headquarters and it is great to see them accessible to a wider audience.”
The exhibition is free to visitors from August until 15 October.
Victim's jaw broken by man he was 'trying to help'
A man suffered a broken jaw after being attacked by a man he thought he was trying to help.
The 45-year-old victim had stopped because he thought the man, who later attacked him, needed assistance, police said.
The victim called the man a taxi but when it arrived he was hit in the face before his attacker got into the vehicle.
The attack happened in Broadwell Road, Middlesbrough, in the early hours of 27 July, but police have only just released details.
A week of family activities are to be held in Chester-le-Street with events paid for by money seized from criminals.
The Market place Activity Week is being organised by Durham Police from next Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 15:00 each day.

confiscated through the Proceeds of Crime Act will be used to support the activities which will include a bouncy castle, inflatable slide and
face painting.
There will
also be a climbing wall, rodeo bull, human demolition ball, gladiator joust,
assault course, bungee run and sessions with Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of
Light.
PCSO Adrian Richards said: “We hope
2017 will be the biggest and best yet – beating the 20,000 people we attended
last year.”
A search is under way for two seven-year-old boys in Newcastle.
The pair, whose names have not been released, were reported missing at 10:45.
Northumbria Police confirmed that officers are searching on the ground and the force helicopter has been deployed.

Nicholas Holmes of Hobson and Holmes won the partner category at the Color Zoom UK awards in London on Sunday.

He and his model Rebecca Summers (pictured below), who is also from Darlington, will now compete against 38 other finalists from around the world at the final in Barcelona.

Grouse moors boost curlew numbers
Endangered bird species are thriving on grouse moors, researchers have found.
Teams from Durham and Newcastle Universities discovered six times as many curlews on moorland compared with less protected land, where there are no gamekeepers to control predators such as foxes, stoats and crows.
The research comes ahead of the start of the annual grouse shooting season on 12 August - the so-called "Glorious Twelfth."

Cleveland Police has appealed for anyone who saw a car suspected to be involved in a ram-raid at a bank in Eston this morning to contact the force.
The white Ford Kuga went through the front of Yorkshire Bank on the High Street at about 09:00.
It is then believed that a number of men left the vehicle and stole cash boxes before getting back into it and making off.
Anyone who witnessed anything, particularly the white Kuga being driven erratically, is asked to get in touch.
