  2. BBC Music Day 2017: Stockton-on-Tees

    We will be live at the Georgian Theatre in Stockton on Thursday, where we will showcase live music every hour throughout the day.

    All the artists are local and after performing on stage they will start to record a track for BBC Music Day written by local songwriter Andy Jones.

    At 17:30 we will reveal the recorded song.

    Everyone is welcome to drop in at any time during the day.

  3. Dead deer found in bin bags

    The remains of six deer were found inside bin bags on Waskerley Way, Weardale, on 2 June.

    A further two incidents were reported in the East Hedleyhope area, where deer had been left to rot after being shot and killed by dogs.

    Inspector Keith Wardle, from Consett Neighbourhood Police Team described the findings as "very disturbing" and said that they are working to identify those responsible.

    New Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk says his goal is to get the club promoted back to the Premier league at the first attempt.

  5. Man assaulted in Redcar during burglary

    A 57-year-old man was assaulted during a burglary at his home in Redcar.

    Two people forced their way into the address in Turner Street and stole a small quantity of cash and cigarettes.

    A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, but was later released.

    The victim didn't require any medical treatment.

  6. Morphine and bank cards stolen in Middlesbrough

    Morphine and bank cards were stolen from a property in Middlesbrough over the weekend.

    The incident took place on Saturday when someone broke into an address on Prince Road between 01:00 and 08:00.

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

  7. Memorial service to be held for Cheick Tiote

    A memorial service for the former Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote will be held in Beijing tomorrow, attended by his family, friends and teammates.

    Tiote's body will then be flown home to the Ivory Coast where a private ceremony will be held later this week.

    Cheick Tiote died aged 30 after collapsing during training in China last week.

  8. 3D printed bionic hands trial begins

    The world's first clinical trial of 3D printed bionic hands for child amputees starts this week in Bristol.

    They are made by a South Gloucestershire company which only launched four years ago.

    Tilly Lockey, from Consett, lost her hands due to meningitis and was given a prototype 3D printed bionic hand last year.

  9. Weather: Clouds and drizzle after midnight

    Any very isolated showers will soon ease, with clear spells developing.

    However cloudier conditions could develop after midnight, with some rain or drizzle possible, mainly across the hills.

  10. Man dies in house blaze

    A man has died in a house fire in Burnopfield in County Durham, fire service officials have said.

    Crews from Consett and High Handenhold tackled the blaze in the Oakfields area of the village on Saturday evening.

    A Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Sadly we can confirm that a male adult died at the scene.

    "A joint investigation with the police will take place."

  11. Memorial to river death teenager

    BBC Tees

    A memorial seat dedicated to a County Durham teenager who died during a summer swim is being unveiled later.

    Fourteen-year-old Cameron Gosling suffered a shock reaction after jumping into the River Wear near Bishop Auckland last summer.

    Since then, his mother Fiona Gosling has been campaigning to make people aware of the dangers of cold water without acclimatising.

    The memorial bench will be unveiled in the park in Crook where Cameron used to play.

  13. Boro officially unveil Monk as new boss

    Middlesbrough have officially unveiled their new manager today.

    The former Leeds and Swansea boss Garry Monk was officially appointed on Friday.

    Monk, who has also reported to have been approached by Sunderland, has signed a long-term deal at the Riverside.

    The 38-year-old left Leeds last month after guiding the club to a seventh place finish in the Championship.

    Head coach Steve Agnew, who took over from Aitor Karanka, is expected to stay on at the club.

  15. SAFC announce pre-season game

    Sunderland AFC will travel to St Johnstone in a pre-season friendly on Saturday 15 July, the club has announced.

    This will be the third game of a pre-season trip to Scotland, which will also see games against Hibernian and Livingston.
