This rain will be heavy in places, especially on the Pennines.

Public asked to think twice before using NHS services

Patients who use emergency services for minor health issues should expect a long wait, health bosses across the North East have warned.

NHS Trusts are urging members of the public to think twice before using services due to the aftermath of the global cyber attack.

People are being asked not to attend A&E or dial 999 unless there is a "genuine need for urgent medical help that cannot wait".

Newcastle United announce new sponsor

A Far Eastern gaming company has become Newcastle United's new sponsor, the club has announced.

FUN88 has agreed to a three-year contract where the company's logo will feature on the team's shirt.

Newcastle player Achraf Lazaar said "team spirit" and "respect" have been factors behind Newcastle's title-winning campaign.

Elderly woman injured after bag theft

A 79-year-old woman was taken to hospital after having her bag snatched in Gateshead yesterday.

The victim was approached on Claremont North Avenue by a man who forced her handbag from her shoulder, before running off towards Coatsworth Road. 

She was left shaken and suffering from minor injuries.

The offender is described as between 23-24 years old, about 5ft 9ins tall and of thin build, with short hair.

Hartlepool council warns against taxi touts

Revellers in Harltepool have been warned to be on their guard against unlicensed taxis touting for business.

It follows a number of reports that cars were offering lifts for a fixed fee in the town centre on Friday and Saturday night.

The council said anyone travelling in such vehicles could be putting themselves at risk as they would not be insured to carry passengers.

Two injured following A171 crash

Two drivers were injured in a crash in Middlesbrough on Saturday.

A Volvo and a Renault Clio were involved in the collision on the A171 at the Flatts Lane/Nunthorpe junction.

The 78-year-old driver of the Volvo suffered internal injuries and a fractured wrist, while the 19-year-old driving the Clio was treated for what have been described as minor injuries.

However, with rain across the whole region, it looks like the weather is living up to the old saying: "Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning".

Street closed after pedestrian hit by car

A woman has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a car in Darlington.

Part of Crown Street has now been cordoned off following the incident at 10:55.

Missing Redcar man 'may have travelled to Hull'

A Redcar man has been reported missing after failing to contact his family.

Gavin Miller was last seen by family members last weekend and has not been in contact with them since, which they say is "out of character".

Police believe the 33-year-old may be driving a white Kia Sportage and that he may have travelled towards the Hull area.

Watch: Travel aboard the steam train Tornado as it reaches 100mph

The Darlington-built Tornado reached 100mph in April making it the first steam train to travel at that speed on Britain's mainline rail network in 50 years. 

The Peppercorn class A1 steam locomotive clocked the speed during a test run on the East Coast Main Line between Doncaster and Newcastle.

Tornado was the first steam locomotive to be built in the UK for almost half a century when it was completed in Darlington in 2008.  

Tonight there will be a chance to watch the story on BBC One at 19:30.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust advice to patients after cyber attack

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust has issued advice for patients after it was affected by the global cyber attack on Friday.

The trust is one of a number of NHS organisations being affected by the ongoing global cyber attack.

It has postponed all planned CT and MRI scans today and patients are advised to call the number on their original appointment letter if they are concerned.

Heavy downpours after glorious weekend sunshine

It will be dry at first in the east, however rain will soon spread to all parts and become persistent and heavy at times, mainly on the hills. 

Low cloud will cover the higher hills with a strong, gusty wind.

Health trust postpones planned CT and MRI scans

All CT and MRI scans at hospitals in Northumberland which are run by the Northumbria NHS Trust have been cancelled today following last week's cyber attack. 

The Trust was among 47 which were hit by the virus known as Wanna Decryptor or WannaCry, which infected 200,000 machines in 150 countries since Friday. 

The postponed procedures will be rearranged and it apologised for the inconvenience.

It has reminded all staff not to switch on or log in to any laptops, mobile devices or desktop PCs until advised to by their line manager.

Geordie duo Ant and Dec dedicate award to Queen

Ant and Dec have dedicated on of their Bafta TV awards to the Queen after winning for their presentation of her 90th birthday celebration event.

The duo won the best live event prize for fronting The Queen's 90th Birthday Celebration on ITV last May.

"Tonight, the Queen has finally won a Bafta," Dec said after the ceremony.

He told BBC News: "She's never won a Bafta. She was given an honorary fellowship a few years ago but she's never won a Bafta."

The pair also won the best entertainment programme for Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.
