  6. Two arrests after fatal crash in Northumberland

    Two people have been arrested after a fatal crash in Northumberland.

    A 20-year-old driver crashed on the A69 near Hexham and the car rolled over in the road at about 01:15, Northumbria Police says.

    The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has not yet been named by police.

    A man, 27, and a woman, 21, have both been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

  7. Police appeal to trace missing teenager

    A teenager from County Durham has gone missing, police say.

    Morgan Thompson, 15, and from Newton Aycliffe, was reported missing a week ago after failing to attend school.

    Police believe she may have travelled to the London area.

    Morgan is 5ft 4in, slim and with long fair hair.

  8. 'The financial situation Durham faces is untenable'

    We have more on the story that Durham CCC have agreed a financial rescue package with Durham County Council over the debts that led to their relegation this season.

    The council will have shares in a "community interest company" (CIC) that will run the club.

    "The financial situation Durham faces is untenable and the club is effectively insolvent and not viable in its current state," read the council report.

    "The council's role and participation in the new board is still to be determined."

    There hasn't been much to cheer about for Durham fans since financial difficulties led to their enforced relegation from Division One of the County Championship - hopefully this is the beginning of happier times.

    We'll have more on this as we get it.

  12. Unemployment falls in the North East

    Unemployment in the North East is down, latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show.

    In the months between June and August, it fell by 9,000 to 88,000.

    However, the region still has the highest rate of unemployment in the UK at 6.8%.
