    It's all been part of the second BBC Music Day and Take it to the Bridge.

  5. Bridge musical perfomances covered more than 100 miles

    BBC Newcastle's coverage of BBC Music Day today involved a journey of almost 12 hours and covered more than 100 miles performing on three bridges and one soon-to-be built bridge from the Scottish Borders to County Durham.

    First up it was the Union Chain Bridge in Northumberland with a Coldstream Piper and the Spittal Pipers.

    Next was North Tyneside Steel Band on Gateshead Millennium Bridge, then The Cornshead Sisters on the site where the New Wear Crossing is being built in Sunderland.

    The station's coverage was rounded off with performances by Chloe Castro (pictured) and Durham Voices of Recovery on Prebends Bridge in Durham.

  7. Transporter Bridge performances 'at the next level'

    Tonight's edition of The One Show is coming from the Eden Project in Cornwall where the finale of BBC Music Day is being held.

    It has just shown a montage of some of the performances from around the country including in the North East.

    Presenter Alex Jones said the performances on Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge had taken things "to the next level" - high praise indeed.

    Teesside University's pro-vice chancellor Mark Simpson was at the Transporter Bridge this evening to watch Look North being filmed.

  9. 'It's been an absolute dream of a day'

    Transporter Bridge supervisor John Ivison said it had been a "marvellous day" to see so many musical performances for Take it to the Bridge, as part of BBC Music Day.

    The bridge's gondola has been operating as normal around the musical performances.

    He said: "It's been an absolute dream of a day."

    He said he hoped the day had shown off Middlesbrough to people around the country and would encourage people to visit."

  10. Day 'brightened by musical performances'

    "Ignore the grey skies. We've had a lovely day at the Transporter Bridge which has been brightened by some fantastic musical performances.

    "The musicians have been performing their hearts out. 

    "It's been quite interesting to see the faces of people using the Transporter Bridge gondola being serenaded by music throughout the day."

  12. Bridges across the North East venues for live music performances

    We're running an extended live page this evening to carry on bringing you updates on BBC Music Day.

    It's the second time the event has been held and this year a key part of the events has been Take it to the Bridge - with live music performed on 40 bridges around the UK.

    Bridges in the North East which have been the location for performances have been the Union Chain Bridge, in Northumberland, Gateshead's Millennium Bridge, the New Wear Crossing in Sunderland and Prebends Bridge in Durham.

    The major focus has been Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge's gondola where musicians have been counting down the decades from the 1910s to the present day since this morning.

    And the performances will carry on into the evening. We'll bring you updates here and you can listen on BBC Tees.

  13. Crowd on Prebends Bridge in Durham for The Voice's Chloe Castro

    Durham's Chloe Castro was hotly tipped to make the final of The Voice, but had to leave ahead of the quarter finals due to "personal health reasons"

    However, she was back for BBC Music Day and a crowd gathered on the Prebends Bridge in Durham to listen.

    Durham Voices of Recovery, a choir made up of those in recovery from addiction problems and their workers, performed on Prebends Bridge in Durham this afternoon.

  16. Nouveau Wellbeing 'putting on their disco pants' for BBC Music Day

    Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge has been a hive of activity throughout the day with performances as part of the Take it to the Bridge events, which are part of BBC Music Day.

    Here are Nouveau Fitness, a North East community interest company who do dance and fitness sessions, who certainly brought a splash of colour with them.

  18. BBC Music Day: What we've seen so far

    So far we've been bringing you some of the moments from BBC Music Day across the North East.

    There's been a lot happening, with a series of musical moments on bridges for Take It To The Bridge

    Middlesbrough’s Transporter Bridge is one of 40 taking part across the UK - and it's already played host to a whole host of bands, singers and stars.

    X Factor hopeful from last year Josh Daniels is set to perform - but one of the biggest crowds was for CBeebies star Mr Bloom (pictured below).
