  2. Coming up on Look North: Hundreds attend funeral of WW2 veteran

    Hundreds of people have gathered to pay their respects to a Teesside war veteran who died, leaving behind no family.

    Thomas Cox, 90, from Stockton, served in World War Two. Following his death an appeal was put out to persuade as many people as possible to attend his funeral.

    However, light winds and clear periods will allow a slight frost to form for a time, especially around Consett and Bishop Auckland.

  4. Travel: Delays on roads in Northumberland, Durham and Middlesbrough

    One lane is blocked on the A69 westbound in Newcastle  between Hexham turn-off and Lemington Roundabout, because of a broken down car.  

    There is queuing traffic on the A690 eastbound in Durham between The Gates Roundabout and the Station Lane junction. In the roadworks area.  

    The A66 in Middlesbrough exit slip road closed and very slow traffic westbound at Cannon Park Interchange, because of an accident involving a lorry and a car.

  5. Middlesbrough Adam Forshaw hoping for more games

    Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw has admitted his career at the club "hasn't been the best" so far.

    Forshaw has started only nine games in all competitions since joining the Teessiders from Wigan in January.

    The 24-year-old recently returned to action after missing more than a month with an ankle injury picked up in October's Championship loss to Cardiff.

    "I'm fit and raring to go and hopefully I can get in the team and help out. My Middlesbrough career hasn't been the best on the pitch. I haven't really had many injuries except for the few weeks I was out."

  7. Preview: Middlesbrough v Birmingham

    Middlesbrough came through the win at Ipswich without injuries and are likely to name an unchanged team as they play host to Birmingham on Saturday.

    Defender Rhys Williams has returned to training after almost a year out with an Achilles injury, but is unlikely to feature with the squad for some time.

    • Boro are unbeaten in four matches with Birmingham (W2 D2), having lost each of the three prior to that run

  8. Travel: Delays on A1 in North Yorkshire because of collision involving lorries

    There is queuing traffic on the A1(M) southbound between A6136, Catterick South in Catterick and J51, A1 (Leeming Bar) in Leeming Bar, because of an accident involving two lorries earlier on. 

    All lanes have been reopened. Congestion to J57 A66(M) Darlington.

  9. Preview: Tottenham v Newcastle

    Newcastle head coach Steve McClaren has no new injury worries and will have the same squad who beat Liverpool as the Magpies travel to Tottenham on Sunday.

    The Magpies are still without defender Jamaal Lascelles and midfielders Cheick Tiote and Rolando Aarons, but the trio could return to action next week.

    • Newcastle are aiming for a third consecutive league win at Tottenham for the first time since 1911
    • There hasn't been a draw in 18 league meetings between these sides at White Hart Lane since October 1995
  10. Donations 'incredibly humbling' after Foodbank presents theft

    Just days ago Christmas toys were stolen from Newcastle's West End Foodbank foodbank.

    Now thousands of presents have been donated - including some from as far away as Hong Kong. See how much has been donated here.

    Sunderland's Lee Cattermole (back) and Sebastian Larsson (knee) are still out ahead of the Black Cats' match against Watford on Saturday.

    Steven Fletcher faces a fitness test on a foot problem, but Jermain Defoe and Wes Brown have recovered from respective hamstring and knee injuries.

    • Police have been called out to more than 50 incidents across Northumberland because of black ice on the roads
  13. Watch: Hundreds attend funeral of WW2 veteran with no family

    Hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects to a Teesside war veteran who died leaving behind no family.

    Following his death, Barbara Wood put out an appeal to get as many people as possible to attend his funeral and hundreds answered her call.

  14. Cyclist injured in collision with car

    A cyclist has been taken to hospital after his bike was in collision with a car in County Durham.

    The man, in his 50s, sustained minor injuries in the crash that happened in Blackhall Colliery at about 09:10 this morning.

    The Great North Air Ambulance team arrived after reports of him being unconscious but the man was transported to hospital by road.

  15. Hartlepool job secured at Caparo steel

    A further 600 jobs, including one in Hartlepool, have been saved at collapsed Black Country steel firm Caparo, say administrators.

    The majority of the remaining businesses and assets have now been sold - saving 1,100 jobs, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers.

    The Gupta family has bought a total of 10 Caparo businesses in recent weeks.

  16. Girl, 11, injured in hit-and-run

    An 11-year-old girl has been injured in a hit-and-run in Hartlepool.

    The girl was hit on Raby Road at about 16:00 on Wednesday by a red sports car that did not stop at the scene, police say.

    She was taken to the One Life Centre where she was treated for minor injuries.

  17. Travel: Four-vehicle accident blocks lane on A19

    One lane is blocked and there's queuing traffic on the A19 southbound in Backworth near the A1056 Killingworth Way junction because of an accident involving four vehicles.
