  4. Council promises more clarity on information

    Huw Oxburgh

    Local Democracy Reporter

Eastbourne Borough Council officers have committed to making official information more user friendly.

At a special meeting of the council's scrutiny committee, councillor Robert Smart said: "I think an indication of the difficulty for councillors to understand what is going on is demonstrated in the profile budget.

"I think a member of the public may be rather surprised to see a full year budget for service delivery is £5.18m but the profile budget for six months is £27m."

It was noted that the majority of the £27m mentioned by Mr Smart was due to the housing benefit payments for social housing and temporary accommodation, with a large proportion of this money claimed back from central government before the end of the financial year, councillors heard.

  7. Slow progress on hospital refurbishment plan

    Rebecca Curley

    Local Democracy Reporter

The future of Molesey Community Hospital is still uncertain, as councillors slam the length of time it has taken for a decision on a refurbishment as "appalling".

Residents were consulted on the future of the clinic and health care facilities at the site in 2016 with a decision made a year later to keep hospital beds at the location.

But councillors said they were "still waiting" to hear what will happen with the site.

Speaking at an Elmbridge Borough Council overview and scrutiny meeting on Thursday, Julian Wilmshurst-Smith, head of contracting for Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group, said funding for a business case has been secured and it could take up to eight months to finalise details of whether it will be a rebuild or a refurbishment.

Plans on the table include bringing two GP practices on site as well as speaking to Surrey County Council about providing more adult social care services and talking to Kingston Hospital about out-patient facilities.

  10. Drone drill to take place after Gatwick incident

    a drone flies at sunset

There will be a drill to practice for another drone incident at an airport in the near future - according to Sussex's Police and Crime Commissioner.

Katy Bourne was asking Sussex Police Chief Constable Giles York about his force's response to the incident at Gatwick Airport last month, when multiple drone sightings over the airfield forced the runway to shut and disrupted thousands of passengers.

Ms Bourne told the meeting that the transport secretary, Chris Grayling, had written to her setting out how the government was preparing in case another incident took place.

One of the measures would be a "rehearsal" organised by the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure, Ms Bourne said.
