  8. West Sussex school admission figures are better than national average

    New school admission figures show West Sussex is better than the national average.

    More than nine out of 10 West Sussex children were offered their first choice school in 2017 – and 99% were offered one of their preferred schools.

    Figures for applications in West Sussex in September 2017 show:

    • 98.3% of secondary applicants offered one of their three preferences • 91.1% of secondary applicants offered their first preference • 98.6% of primary applicants offered one of their three preferences • 90.2% of primary applicants offered their first preference.

    In comparison, 83.5% of secondary applicants and 90% of primary applicants in England were offered their first choice.

    Gatwick Airport bosses say their highest-ever passenger figures, released today, show that the airport is one of the most successful in the world.

    Figures show:

    • 44.1m passengers passed through the airport in 2016/17
    • Earning a profit of £131m
    • The airport intends to spend £240m this year improving their infrastructure
