  3. Leiston transgender woman speaks out, in the hope of helping others

    A transgender woman, from Leiston, says she wants to highlight the difficulties she's experienced in her journey to become a woman in the hope it helps others.

    Jennifer Jo Lees, who used to be Mark, has secretly dressed as a woman in the past, but gave up when her family found out.

    She says: "I got loads of stick and grief in Leiston. I was taunted, had my name called out to me in the street, really making my life a hell."  She's now been living full-time as a woman for two weeks.

  6. Travel: Fuel spill causes problems on A12 at Martlesham

    The A12 is partially blocked in Martlesham and there's queuing traffic in both directions on the A1214 junction, because of a broken down lorry and a fuel spillage.

  7. Returning Patterson on target as U21s beat Crewe

    Goals from Monty Patterson, back after seven months out injured, Myles Kenlock, Conor McKendry and schoolboy striker Charlie Brown saw Town’s U21s to a 4-2 victory over Crewe Alexandra at Playford Road this afternoon.

  8. Communities secretary says 'devolution won't be forced on anyone'

    East Anglian devolution will not be forced on anyone who doesn't want it, according to Communities and Local Government Secretary Greg Clark who has been visiting the region today.

    But Mr Clark, who was looking at proposals for a new garden town for Wisbech, also suggested the scheme, which has a lot of local support, would happen more quickly if devolution was in place.

    His plans to give Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire extra powers and a directly elected mayor have come in for criticism since they were announced a fortnight ago.  

  9. Cap on Broads windpump taken off for repairs

    The cap on Horsey windpump has been successfully removed, despite blustery conditions earlier, and will now be sent to a millwright in Suffolk for repair.

    The pump, owned by the National Trust, was built in 1912 to help drain land near the Norfolk Broads. 

    Harsh weather and water leaks have caused timber to rot on the 15m (49ft) high landmark's cap and beams. The sails were removed two years ago.

  10. Motorcyclist named following fatal Ipswich collision

    The motorcyclist who died following a collision in Ipswich yesterday has been named as Duane Cook, 42, of Kings Way in the town.

    Police were called at about 16:15 to reports of a collision between a Yamaha motorcycle and a Honda car.

    Despite efforts to save Mr Cook, he died at the scene.

  12. Man has skull fractured in Stowmarket assault

    A man has been left with a fractured skull as well as swelling and bruising to his face following an assault in Stowmarket on Monday night, Suffolk Police says.

    The 21-year-old was assaulted by two males in an alleyway off Needham Road, between 20:50 and 22:30. It's thought he was knocked unconscious and when he came round, his bag containing a phone, wallet and other items was missing.

    He was taken to Ipswich Hospital where he was x-rayed and treated for his injuries.

  14. Changes to Bury Rugby Club side facing Redingensians at weekend

    There will be changes to the side ahead of this weekend’s match against Redingensians, where victory would see Bury Rugby Club close in on safety in National League Two, their director of rugby says.

    Gavin Hogg said: "Joe Lawson picked up a knock to his knee. The Fijians are away on army duty and Matt Edison is away on a skiing trip with school.

    "We're hoping that this rest period will allow Matt Hem and Mark Kitson to come back from injury and push for a starting place or a place in the squad."

  15. Candidate for PCC withdraws his application

    One of the candidates wanting to be Suffolk's Police and Crime Commissioner has announced he's no longer standing.

    Colin Sutton, who lives in the county, led the investigation into the conviction of Milly Dowler's murderer Levi Bellfield while working for the Metropolitan Police. 

    Mr Sutton has said he won't be standing for "very good personal reasons".

  16. Travel: Recovery work continues on A12 at Wrentham

    There are still delays in both directions on the A12 at Wrentham between Guildhall Lane and Wood Lane as recovery work continues following an earlier accident between a double-decker bus and a van.

    The driver of the van has been airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital  with "critical" injuries.

  19. Bru injury doubt for Ipswich Town trip to Wolves

    Ipswich Town midfielder and Mauritius international Kevin Bru is an injury doubt for Saturday's trip to Wolves after he missed yesterday's 5-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier loss to Rwanda.

    He is due back at the club tomorrow where he will be assessed.
