  10. NHS bosses plan £20m 'efficiency' cuts

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

    Stephen Topping

Health bosses in Cheshire are aiming to cut £20m from their budgets by next March.

    Blood pressure being taken

That's the proposal from both NHS Vale Royal and NHS South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) which have the same governing body and cover the middle and south of the county.

The NHS has told all its health organisations to be more efficient while still delivering the same quality of service.

The two CCGs are also planning to merge with East Cheshire CCG and West Cheshire CCG next year, subject to approval from doctors.

Quote Message: Often the care that is better quality is not necessarily more expensive – often quality care is more efficient care. If you can put in a system whereby someone is seen once rather than multiple times and it is better quality, then it will be more efficient.” from Dr Jonathan Griffiths Chairman of NHS Vale Royal CCG

  11. School with 20 pupils to close this summer

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

    Kerry Ashdown

A 150-year-old school's going to close this summer after a council said it was financially unsustainable.

    Henry Prince First School

The Henry Prince First School, in Mayfield, Staffordshire, near Ashbourne, has space for 75 pupils, but currently has just 20.

Staffordshire County Council's approved proposals from the school's governing body to shut it, with its financial deficit forecast to rise above £400,00 by 2021-22.

Members of the local parish council called the decision premature, but the county council said there was no alternative but to close it from the end of August.

  12. Official opening for county's latest nature reserve

    Allen Cook

    BBC News

Staffordshire's latest nature reserve has been officially opened today.

    The reserve being officially opened

The county's wildlife trust bought the former quarry at Tucklesholme, south of Burton-upon-Trent, last year for ££337,000 and has been working since on turning the 110 acres into a wetland habitat.

It said it wanted the new reserve to be a haven for fish and endangered birds such as lapwings and egrets.
