  7. Travel: Stafford delays warning

    There is slow traffic in both directions on the A34 Wolverhampton Road in both directions in Stafford between the junction with Bailey Street and the junction with Baswich Lane in the roadworks area, drivers are warned.

  8. Union warns £11.7m budget cuts will see redundancies in ambulance service

    The GMB union has warned £11.7m worth of budget cuts to the West Midlands Ambulance Service will impact on response times. 

    WMAS said front-line staff wouldn't be affected, but union bosses believe the cuts will lead to redundancies for a number of ambulance support staff in the region.

    The GMB will attend a meeting on Friday to discuss the implications of the savings with health trusts.

    Jake Shakeshaft honed his singing skills gigging in pubs around Stoke but now the 20-year-old from Newcastle-under-Lyne - previously coached on The Voice - is among six acts shortlisted for the UK's Eurovision entry.

  11. Inmate attacked prison officer after demanding new TV for his cell

    A prison officer was attacked by an inmate who became "threatening" after demanding a new television for his cell at HMP Oakwood in Featherstone.

    A report seen by the BBC says the officer was treated for a black eye and suspected broken ribs after the attack at the Category C prison, on Thursday afternoon.

    The prisoner is accused of attacking the custody officer after being ordered back to his cell.

  13. Telephones down for up to six weeks in parts of Stafford

    People around Stafford who have now been without phone service for six weeks are being urged to tell the borough council. 

    Some people in Baswich say they have no idea when their landline and internet will be reconnected.

    BT says services around Stafford are affected by water-damaged underground cables, but it is working on repairs.

    A 30-year-old woman has been found dead at a house in Stoke-on-Trent. 

    Police say her body was discovered after they were called to Cliveden Road in Abbey Hulton last night. 

    A 31-year-old man is being questioned in connection with the death.

  15. Newcastle singer shortlisted for Eurovision

    A singer from Newcastle-under-Lyme who appeared on The Voice has had a song shortlisted for this year's Eurovision.

    Jake Shakeshaft is duetting with Joe Woolford on a song called You're Not Alone.

    It is one of six possible UK entries to go to the public vote on Friday.
