  2. Jessica Ennis-Hill considers her future in the sport

    One of Yorkshire's greatest ever athletes, Jessica Ennis-Hill, says she may now retire from the sport after winning a silver medal at the Olympics in Rio. 

    The world heptathlon champion was narrowly beaten over the weekend but says she loved every minute and is proud of what she's achieved. 

    She says she can't wait to come back home to see her husband and son - and she needs some "down time" to decide whether to carry on.

  4. UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park Prepares To Open

    Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park

    Sheffield’s second £10m University Technical College (UTC) is on track to open to new students as planned next month.

    Students joining UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park campus on Attercliffe Common will start their studies on time on 12 September.

    Around 180 new students will initially be based at Oasis Academy Don Valley on Leeds Road for their two-week induction that will involve visits to employers.

  5. Wednesday manager on Forestieri apology

    Fernando Forestieri has apologised for refusing to play for Sheffield Wednesday against Norwich City. 

    He insists he doesn't want to leave the Owls.

  6. Sports Direct latest; 'We'll work with Mike Ashley' says union

  7. IPCC investigates death of footballer who was tasered

    The former Sheffield Wednesday footballer, Dalian Atkinson (pictured below with the ball) has died after police fired a taser gun at him in Telford in Shropshire. He was 48. 

    West Mercia Police said officers were responding to a call expressing concern about the safety of an individual in the early hours of the morning. 

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating.

    Jessica Ennis-Hill has hinted that she's thinking of retiring following her silver medal in Rio 2016.

  9. Sports Direct latest; company 'not off the hook' says union

    Workers employed by Sports Direct and through employment agency, The Best Connection, are expected to start getting their share of £1m back pay in full towards the end of this month, says Unite.

    Assistant general secretary Steve Turner calls the move a "significant victory" in the union's campaign.

    But he added: “Investors and customers alike should not be fooled into thinking that everything is now rosy at Sports Direct’s Shirebrook warehouse."

  10. Wednesday striker fined for missing match

    Carlos Carvalhal confirms Fernando Forestieri has been fined. 

    The Owls' forward missed Saturday's match against Norwich City amid recent transfer speculation. He's since apologised.

    The Sheffield Wednesday manager wouldn't say whether the Owls' striker will be involved in their match against Burton tomorrow.

    Police in Barnsley found a man asleep after a night out.

    When they got him up, he left his silhouette behind, thanks to all the rain overnight. He was still clutching his takeaway box.

    They've sent out this picture of the incident as an example of how not to end the evening.

  12. 21 charged with organised crime offences in South Yorkshire

    In the last six weeks, South Yorkshire police have charged 21 people in a crackdown on organised crime and drug dealing. 

    Of the 21 charged, ten men have been charged with firearms offences, five men with possession of an offensive weapon and assault and five men and one woman with possession with intent to supply class A drugs. 

  13. Forestieri issues appology for missing Wednesday match

    Sheffield Wednesday forward, Fernando Forestieri has issued an apology following his no show at Norwich City Football Club on Saturday.

    The 26-year-old striker refused to play amid recent transfer speculation and has been linked with a move to Championship rivals Derby County, having scored 15 times last season.


    In the match, Norwich City were held to a goalless draw by the Owls in their first home game of the season.

  14. Former funeral home up for architecture award

    Sheffield's first pay-as-you-feel café, has just been nominated for an architecture award.

  15. Sports Direct to offer £1m payout to workers

    Thousands of workers at Sports Direct's warehouse in Shirebrook are to get a total of £1 million back pay, according to the Unite union.  

    Unite says the payments could be up to £1,000 for some workers, and that the money is for non-payment of the minimum wage

  16. Sheffield Wednesday tweet condolence for former player

    Sheffield Wednesday have tweeted following the death of their former player, Dalian Atkinson.

    The 48-year-old died of a cardiac arrest after being tasered by police.

  17. Former Wednesday player dies of cardiac arrest after police taser

    A man who died after being shot with a Taser by police in Shropshire is believed to be former footballer Dalian Atkinson.  

    He was signed by Ron Atkinson at Sheffield Wednesday in 1989 -- costing a considerable for the time £450,000. 

    He started alongside Owls favourite David Hirst. Wednesday were relegated in his only season at Hillsborough and he joined Real Sociedad in Spain for nearly two million pounds.

    Dalian Atkinson played for Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town and is best known for his time at Aston Villa.
