    Thanks for joining us today.

    Just a reminder of our main story: a police officer is "lucky to be alive" after she was attacked by an axe-wielding man as she tried to arrest him.

    The officer sustained "multiple serious injuries" after responding to reports of a domestic incident in Gleadless, Sheffield, on Wednesday night.

    Today, a police cordon has remained in place in Plowright Close. 

    We understand the police officer has had surgery this afternoon and she remains in hospital.

  2. Missing from Barnsley: Have you seen Lindsey?

    Lindsey Pluteci, 38, was last seen on Monday evening at about 18:00 close to Barnsley Hospital on Gawber Road and fears are now growing for her welfare.  

    Lindsey was last seen wearing jeans with a pyjama top. She was also carrying a brown handbag and has "distinctive" tattoos on her hands.

    The outlook tomorrow, mostly dry to start the day but showers developing by the afternoon, which could be heavy and thundery.

  8. Final whistle: How MS ended a Doncaster and England footballer's career

    England batsman James Taylor this week announced his retirement from cricket at the age of 26 owing to a serious heart condition.

    One person who knows how it feels to have a successful sporting career ended suddenly by a medical condition is Doncaster Rovers Belles footballer Ashleigh Mills.

    She was also a rising star for England, but last month, a day after she turned 20, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and forced to retire from the game.

  13. Aston hopes Trinity clash will signal boost for Sheffield Eagles

    Sheffield Eagles head coach Mark Aston says a strong showing against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Friday can raise confidence levels at the team.

    The Eagles go into the clash against Super League opposition as rank outsiders, after indifferent form in the Championship, but Aston's hoping it can kickstart their campaign.

    He's told BBC Radio Sheffield Sport: "This could give us a bit of confidence. The only think lacking at the moment is that layer of confidence and that layer of belief."

    Sheffield's Chief Superintendent David Hartley has told me the Sheffield PC who was attacked by a man with an axe in Gleadless Valley last night was subject to a "sustained attack". 

    She's currently receiving treatment and is "lucky to be alive".

  15. Barnsley FC's Bree set for spell on sidelines after injury

    Barnsley caretaker boss Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed James Bree has suffered a reoccurrence of the hamstring injury which forced him to miss the JPT Trophy Final at Wembley.

    The 18-year-old suffered the injury against Oldham on Tuesday, and he's set for an unspecified spell on the sidelines.

    Meanwhile, Reds winger Adam Hammill (pictured) is expected to be fit to face Burton on Saturday, after suffering a bout of cramp against the Latics.

  16. Senior civil servant accused of misleading MPs over closure of BIS in Sheffield

    A senior civil servant has been accused of misleading MPs by denying knowledge of papers which reveal the cost of closing the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills in Sheffield.

    Last month, permanent secretary Martin Donnelly claimed he had no figures for the cost of the relocation. 

    But a leaked document shows it could be up to £100,000. 

    The government says it doesn't comment on leaked documents.

    More than 200 jobs will be moved to London.

  17. Gleadless resident: Officer thought 'she was going to die'

    Sheffield's Police Commander has praised the bravery of his officers after one of them was seriously injured in the city last night. She remains in hospital. 

    Four other officers, all men, suffered less serious injuries during the incident at Plowright Close in Gleadless Valley. 

    A man was later arrested inside the nearby Co-op store on Blackstock Road on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.

  18. Fifty trees destroyed by vandals in Sheffield

    More than 50 newly-planted trees in Sheffield have been smashed down in what locals are calling a concerted act of "wanton vandalism". 

    They were planted to replace the mature trees felled by the council as part of its tree replacement programme which has sparked a bitter row.

    More than 3,000 trees have been cut down since 2012, and about 6,000 people have signed a petition objecting to the felling.

  19. Press conference following Gleadless police injuries

    I'm at a press conference where Sheffield's police commander has praised the bravery of his officers involved in axe attack last night.

    We've been told a Sheffield PC suffered multiple serious injuries while she was responding to a domestic incident in Plowright Close at about 19:50 last night, where a man was reportedly armed with an axe.

    That officer and a second male officer were injured as they attempted to arrest the man.

    Three other officers were also injured as they arrested the man, in his 30s, inside the Co-op store in Blackstock Road on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.
