  3. Police appeal for witnesses after Rotherham graveyard handbag snatch

    Police are appealing for witnesses after an 80-year-old woman had her handbag snatched while tending her husband's grave in Rotherham

    It happened yesterday afternoon at St Mary's Church graveyard in Catcliffe. 

    The man grabbed the bag then made off on a bike.

  4. Can you help police crack £40,000 theft from van at Centertainment?

    At around 9.30pm on Friday 5 February, it's reported that two men driving a silver Vauxhall Zafira pulled into the car park near to Burger King at Valley Centertainment, Sheffield, parking next to a silver van.

    It's alleged that the two men broke into the van, taking electrical goods worth around £40,000.

  6. Watch: Cuts to Barnsley children's centre jobs fewer than feared

    The number of jobs being axed by Barnsley Council due to a £2.5m cut in funding at its children's centres will be far fewer than feared, it has emerged.

    Some centres are closing and childcare will be available in fewer of them as a result of the cuts, which the union Unison and some parents have been campaigning against for some time.

    Last autumn Unison feared there would be around 100  compulsory redundancies, but council leader Sir Steve Houghton says they've managed to get that number down to just 23...

  7. 'We want to be at work' says junior doctor on picket line at Sheffield Royal Hallamshire

    I've been at the picket line at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital where junior doctors are staging a 48-hour strike.

    They will provide only emergency care.

  9. Sheffield Trade Union Council announces full support to striking doctors

    Sheffield Trade Union Council (TUC) has announced its support for junior doctors on their 48-hour strike starting today - the first stoppage since health secretary Jeremy Hunt imposed the new contract.

  11. Mind your manners please, we're from Yorkshire

    Yorkshire is the politest area of the UK according to a survey out today. 

    In a survey by Pride of Britain hotels, Yorkshire was ranked most polite with ten per cent of votes - twice as many as Lancashire managed. 

    The survey also asked people for their favourite drink - with tea coming out top.

  12. Woman has handbag snatched while tending husband's grave in Rotherham

    An 80-year-old woman has had her handbag snatched while tending her husband's grave in Rotherham

    Police say the woman was not injured but was left distressed by the incident.

  14. Westminster to discuss Bassetlaw's Pilgrim Fathers connection

    There's a debate in Westminster later today to discuss Bassetlaw's link to the Pilgrim Fathers. 

    The MP for Bassetlaw John Mann wants to start preparations for the 400th anniversary in 2020 of the Mayflower's voyage to the New World. 

    A number of the Pilgrim Fathers hail from the area and went on to form modern America. 

    Mr Mann says its important to remember that some of the Pilgrim Fathers are local...

  15. Indycar driver Justin Wilson died in 'freak accident' inquest hears

    An inquest has heard Sheffield-born Indycar driver Justin Wilson died in a freak accident during a race in America. 

    Justin Wilson was struck by a piece of flying debris from a crash during the race in Pennsylvania last August. 

    Coroner Anne Pember read a statement from Wilson's father, Keith, who described the event as a "freak accident".  

    The inquest concluded that the driver's death was accidental. 

    Wilson, who had raced in Formula One before changing to Indycar, left a wife Julia and two young daughters.
