  3. Award for community farm pioneer

    A woman who saved her family farm by setting up a charity and selling shares in it has been given an award by a group that supports rural communities.

    The Plunkett Foundation said Charlotte Hollins from the Fordhall Community Land Initiative "has shown what is possible through community ownership – and pushed on with a wide variety of projects which make Fordhall the diverse and successful place it is today."

    The Plunkett Foundation said it was the first time a fellowship had been given to the founder of a community business.

    Charlotte Hollins said: "I’m taking this award on behalf of all the volunteers, supporters and staff who have worked with us to allow Fordhall to have come as far as it has today.”

  7. Police to investigate candidate's 'turban' remark

    Police say they are investigating a comment by the Conservative candidate for Ludlow as a possible "hate incident".

    Philip Dunne has been criticised for telling Labour candidate Kuldip Sahota he was "talking through his turban" at a hustings debate in Church Stretton this week.

    West Mercia Police said it was responding to a complaint made by several people.

    Mr Dunne has since apologised for the remark, but Mr Sahota said, "to insult my turban is to insult my faith. This is extremely insulting to the Sikh community".

    Mr Dunne has been the MP for the constituency since 2005 and is defending a majority of 19,286.

  8. Exclusion zone to be set up for cooling towers demolition

    An exclusion zone will be set up on the day the Ironbridge cooling towers are demolished, to keep people at least 350m away from the site.

    It will mean a number of homes will have to be evacuated and the Buildwas Road will be closed off.

    The site owner, Harworth, said it appreciated the demoliton would be "of significant interest to local people", but there will be no viewing area on-site for safety reasons and no parking near the site.

    It also said the demolition was likely to create dust which may extend beyond the exclusion zone and warned people with respiratory conditions to stay well back.

  9. BreakingDate for demolition of power station cooling towers

    It's been announced that the cooling towers on the former Ironbridge Power Station site will be demolished next Friday at 11:00.

    A cordon will be put in place, with road closures and people asked to leave their homes while preparations are made.

    The site is being cleared by its owners, the Harworth Group, to make way for housing.

  10. Fog likely to cause travel disruption

    Fog is likely to cause some travel disruption overnight and into Saturday morning, the Met Office is warning.
