  12. Anger over 'waste' as leak flows from Severn Trent site

    James Bond

    BBC Shropshire

People in Hilton in Shropshire have hit out failures to repair a leak from Severn Trent's own plant even as the firm urges customers to conserve water.

The firm has asked people to take showers, rather than baths, stop watering lawns and save water wherever else they can due to high demand during the heatwave.

People in Much Wenlock suffered three consecutive nights without water.

Alison Brazier said many people in Hilton were angry at the "waste" caused by the "river" of water coming from the site since it was reported almost two months ago.

Pat Stoker said her husband had been forced to dig a gully to allow water on the steep hill to drain into woodland.

Villagers in Pant, near Oswestry said they were also waiting for a leak to be fixed six weeks after reporting it.

    Hilton pumping station

Severn Trent said it had extra teams dealing with leaks during the heatwave but that it was waiting for specialist equipment at the Hilton site.

In the case of other leaks, the firm said it often had to coordinate fixes as they often required the shutting of roads or turning off supplies.
