  3. Police treating Dawley car fire as arson

    A car fire in Dawley on Monday night appears to have been started deliberately, the police have said.

    A Volvo was badly damaged in Hinkshay Road and while no-one was hurt, the owners are said to be extremely distressed.

    There have been a number of car fires in the Telford area over the summer, including one caught on CCTV last month and the police are hoping this attack might also have been caught on someone's camera.

    At this stage they can't say if this was a targeted attack.

  4. Football: Haughmond look to spring another FA Cup shock

    The amateurs of Haughmond FC are looking to pull off a real FA Cup shock when they travel to Lincolnshire to take on Boston tomorrow

    The Shropshire side have already made it through three of the early stages, beating Matlock in the previous round.

    Club captain Tom Hewitt, a carpenter, admits it's a tough draw, but believes they can progress.

  6. Anger at year-long Whitchurch road closure

    Shropshire Star

    A potential year-long closure of a Whitchurch road to repair damage caused by badgers is "unacceptable", say residents.

    Painted purple rocks have been appearing all over Shropshire today, to raise awareness of child sex exploitation.

    People finding the stones are being asked to photograph them and post them on social media, to spread the message around.

  8. 'Glitch in security' allowed porn to appear on council signs

    A council investigation into how pornographic images came to be on one of their digital street signs in Telford has concluded the sign wasn't hacked.

    Instead Telford and Wrekin Council believes there was a glitch in the signs' security settings which allowed a passer-by to simply search for the content and put it on display.

    The council added that a "thorough review of security settings" was now being carried out and the signs would remain switched off for the time being.

    The New Saints are looking to make it four Welsh Premier wins on the bounce tonight, but face a tough challenge, away to Cardiff Met.

    Both sides have lost just once in the Welsh Premier League this season.

  11. BreakingLegionella bacteria found at Ludlow hospital 'not a risk'

    Legionella bacteria has been found at Ludlow Hospital.

    The Shropshire Community Health Trust says it was discovered in routine water samples and it is not the type which causes Legionnaires' disease.

    The health trust also said patients, staff and visitors were not at risk and it was not connected with the outbreak at the Feathers Hotel, in Ludlow.

  12. Fire at house in Woodside

    Firefighters were called to a house in the Woodside area of Telford last night, to deal with a fire in a ground floor bedroom.

    They were called out at 23:40 and had it out in half an hour.

    Nobody was reported hurt.

  13. M54 link plans welcomed by council leader

    Plans for a link road connecting the M54 with the M6 and M6 Toll have been described as "one big step forward" by the leader of Telford and Wrekin Council.

    Councillor Shaun Davies said Shropshire's links to the motorway network were "woeful" at the moment and that transport links came up "time and time again" when he talked to business leaders.

    Three options for the link road are being put forward by Highways England, which says it could take 22,000 vehicles a day off small A roads.
