  5. Fourteen leap year babies born in Shropshire

    Shropshire's hospitals delivered 14 leap day babies yesterday.

    Here we have photos of Reece (left), Jack (top right) and Jenson (bottom right).

    Their parents say they'll either hold their birthdays on 28 February or 1 March.

  6. Flood alert in north Shropshire

    It's nothing like the flooding we've seen in recent months, but the Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Severn Vyrnwy confluence this afternoon.

    That's the Llanymynech, Maesbrook, Cae Howel and Crew Green area.

    It says river levels should peak early tomorrow morning.

  7. Che Guevara's cigar box sells for £12,000

    A cigar box which once belonged to Che Guevara has sold for £12,000 at auction in Ludlow.

    The auctioneers won't say who the buyer was, other than it was "someone local".

    The box had been given to the revolutionary leader by the Cuban government as a birthday gift in 1963.

  10. Telford council to benefit from sale of government land

    Telford and Wrekin council says it could be getting £44.5m from the sale of government-owned land in the borough.

    The authority has been told it can market and sell land owned by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and receive a cut of the profit, which it says it will reinvest some of the money generated.

    The "Telford Land Deal" could result in 2,800 homes being built on the land and the council says 8,500 jobs could be created.

  11. Majority of children get into secondary school of their choice

    Parents have been finding out today if their children have got into the secondary school they wanted.

    In the Shropshire Council area 93% got into their first-choice school - in Telford that figure was lower at 86%.

    If families are not happy, they can ask for a review and the deadline for that is 16 March.

    Two BBC Introducing artists from the county have released their music videos this weekend.

    Savannah, from Dawley, released their video for Music Is My High, which they filmed on top of the Wrekin.

  13. Football: Telford boss in a confident mood

    AFC Telford United take on Alfreton Town tonight, a side which has won eight out of its last 10 games.

    The Bucks remain four points adrift of safety at the bottom of the league and their manager, Rob Smith, says he believes they are in a fight with five or six other teams.

    Despite their tough fixture list, he says he's confident of survival.

  14. Shrewsbury rugby post collapse: RFU release statement

    The Rugby Football Union says it's been in touch with Shrewsbury Rugby club about the incident at the weekend which left a spectator injured, when a goal post snapped off and fell on his head.

    The RFU says it has "reinforced this particular club’s requirement to carry out a risk assessment of their other facilities".

    But it says the management of health and safety at grounds is a club matter and it is there to provide advice and support.

  16. Old apprentice agreement discovered by Telford college

    This could be one of the oldest apprenticeship agreements in the county and it contains wonderful lines like "he shall not commit fornication, nor contract matrimony within the said term" - can you contract matrimony?


    And the document, which dates back to the 1890s, says the apprentice must not play at dice either.

    Telford College of Arts and Technology found the manuscript in its archives and is trying to find out more about the man and his descendants.

  17. Discoloured water in Telford 'nothing to worry about'

    Severn Trent engineers are working to fix a fault, after reports of discoloured water by people living in Telford.


    The company says sediment is being disturbed by a higher than usual flow, perhaps caused by a burst pipe or a tanker being filled.

    It says there is no risk to health, but advises people to run the cold tap for 20 minutes to clear the water. You might have to do this several times it says.

  18. Caus Castle archaeologists 'won't put a spade in the ground'

    The team of archaeologists preparing to investigate the site of a 12th century Shropshire castle say they won't have to do any digging, but will use the latest technology to scan the earthworks.

    Caus Castle, near Westbury, was once one of the biggest in the county and is believed to be built on the site of an iron age hill fort.

    Because there is no public access to the site, this is the first time a survey like this has been possible.

  19. Shrewsbury Town re-sign Palace winger Kaikai

    Shrewsbury Town have re-signed winger Sullay Kaikai on loan from Crystal Palace until the end of the season.

    Kaikai scored five goals in 14 games for Shrewsbury in his last spell with the club, after joining on a four-month loan deal in September.

    The 20-year-old has made one appearance for Premier League club Palace, but has not featured this season.

  20. Warning of snow tonight

    The Met Office is warning there could be a few centimetres of snow tonight.

    It's expecting it to fall from midnight onwards and says it could make driving conditions difficult.
