  3. Sport: National hockey event in Telford this weekend

    The top women's hockey teams from across the country will travel to Telford this weekend, to compete in a two-day event. 

    The England Hockey competition known as Super Sixes will take place at the Phoenix Sports and Leisure Centre.

    Another Super Sixes event will take place in Telford in January. 

    The top four teams will then qualify for the National final at Wembley Arena in 2016.

    But Rob Smith has a number of selection problems all due to injuries. Captain Paul McCone is once again set to miss out with a knee injury and full-back Dwayne Samuels has a groin strain.

  10. Telford MP reopens office

    The MP for Telford Lucy Allan has reopened her office in Telford after closing it earlier in the week, following a reports of a death threat.

    The police are now investigating that message, which she said was left on her office answerphone.

    She has also returned to Facebook for the first time since posting an email from a constituent, which she has admitted altering.

  12. Former Telford and Wolves player jailed

    A former AFC Telford United player, 28-year-old Chris Cornes from Worcester, has been jailed for four years and four months by Gloucester Crown Court after admitting possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

    The striker, who also played for Wolves, Port Vale and Milton Keynes Dons, had also admitted possessing criminal property - a quantity of cash.

    AFC Telford terminated his contract in 2008, when he was 21, following a disciplinary process and he was shown the door at Molineux after testing positive for cocaine.

    Telford and Wrekin council's new £100,000 fighting fund isn't just for campaigning to keep A&E services at the Princess Royal Hospital, we are told.

    Councillor Shaun Davies said the money would be used to encourage people to use online council services and to register to vote.

    And he told us it is wrong to describe it as a war-chest.

  15. Flood water peaking on Severn

    There are still two flood alerts for the river Severn in Shropshire this lunchtime, but the Environment Agency says the water levels should be peaking about now.

    There is a warning that heavy rain on Saturday could bring more flooding though.

  16. M54 to close eastbound over the weekend

    The eastbound carriageway of M54 between junction 3 and 2 will close tonight at 20:00, for the whole weekend. 

    It's so engineers can carry out repairs to the road surface where cracks have appeared.

    Highways England is hoping the carriageway, which was also closed last weekend, will reopen by Monday morning.

    Diversions are in place, but you're being warned to expect delays and allow longer for your journey.
