  2. Driver walks away from horrific crash

    This was the shocking scene of a road crash earlier today on the B480 towards Stadhampton.

    Three vehicles were involved in the crash, including this blue Toyota which fire crews had to cut open to free the driver.

    Incredibly, no-one was injured.

  3. Cyclist donations top £55,000

    More than £55,000 has now been donated to a Bicester cyclist's JustGiving page after died at the weekend. 

    Robin Chard had hoped to raise £400 for Cancer Research UK by taking part in RideLondon on Sunday, but died of a cardiac arrest during the event.

  4. Campaigners say plans to build new homes in Cropredy could endanger lives

    Lives could be put at risk if developers are allowed to build up to 60 new homes on the edge of a North Oxfordshire village, campaigners have warned.  

  5. Boy, 13, robbed of phone in Oxford street

    Police are searching for a man who robbed a 13-year-old boy of his mobile phone in Oxford last week.

    The teenager was walking along Longwall Street, near Magdalen College, at about 20:30 last Wednesday, 27 July when he was attacked.

    The thief is described as black, in his 20s, slim with dark shoulder-length hair which had golden highlights.

    Steam trains are to operate from Chinnor to Princes Risborough this month...

    The "Risborough Preview" services are the "first publicly-operated steam services over the Network Rail line into what will eventually become a platform at Princes Risborough in 2017", Chinnor Railway said.  

  7. Ellis Downes probe into police handling

    As an inquest into the death of Ellis Downes finds his death was accidental, the Independent Police Complaints Commission's investigation into Thames Valley Police's handling of his case continues.

    IPCC associate commissioner Guido Liguori, who is overseeing the investigation into the police response, said: “Our thoughts remain with Ellis’s family and friends".

  8. Teenage cyclist in hospital after hit and run

    Police are hunting a driver who hit a 14-year-old boy on a bicycle in Oxford at the weekend.

    The boy was cycling in the car park of the Ozone Leisure Complex, near the Kassam Stadium, on Saturday at about 21:40 when he was involved in a collision with a white car which then left the scene.

    He suffered injuries to his abdomen and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment.

    The coroner at the inquest into the death of Ellis Downes said there was no evidence that the 16-year-old was drunk or had taken any drugs.

    Jeremy Chipperfield read statements from some of Ellis's friends who were with him near Donkey Bridge on 9 May.

    Dean Gunning said Ellis was laughing and joking before he got into the water and decided to swim to the other side of the river. However, he became tired and he “struggled to pull himself on the other bank".

    Ellis' friends offered to drive round and pick him up but the teenager decided to swim back.

    Mr Gunning said Ellis "was drifting to the right", adding he thought he was "messing around to start with".

    When it was clear Ellis was struggling, Dean and his brother Jack went in the water to try and save him.

    They said the water was cold and dirty and they could not save their friend.

  10. Irons and Cusack to re-open Playhouse

    Jeremy Irons and his wife Sinead Cusack are to officially re-open the Oxford Playhouse at a gala performance of an official sequel to Peter Pan, it has been announced.

    They said they were "delighted to celebrate the refurbishment of a theatre we are all so fortunate to have".

    The play in September marks the end of a three-year upgrade of the theatre, and is based on the novel Peter Pan in Scarletby Geraldine McCaughrean.

    Louise Chantal, chief executive of the playhouse, said: "It’s wonderful that long-time friends of the playhouse Jeremy and Sinead can join us to celebrate the opening of the new auditorium, and at an Oxford Playhouse world-premiere show – one of three this season alone."

  11. Video diary: Getting the train (and bus) from Didcot to Oxford

    The rail line between Didcot and Oxford was shut at the weekend until 14 August for engineering works.

    The line is being raised at Hinksey to prevent it from being flooded, but this is causing major travel disruption.

    B4015 and B480 both closed at the junction at Coach and Horses pub in Chiselhampton. Congestion and queuing traffic in both directions and traffic being turned around by police.
