    A man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing in Cowley Road, Oxford, police say.

    The man was arrested in the Iffley Road area at about 16:30.

  5. Tomorrow's city centre road closures

    Of course, with Oxford United fans out in force for the open-top bus victory parade, there will be several road closures in place.

    Broad Street will be closed between 15:00 and 20:00 tomorrow, with parking suspended from 13:00.

    "There will be rolling road closures on the rest of the parade route through the city centre," a city council spokesman confirmed.

    Mark Lygo, Oxford City Council executive board member for leisure, sports and events, and fully-fledged fan of the U's, said he was "absolutely delighted" at his team's promotion and "that we have been able to facilitate this open bus parade".

    He added: “I cannot wait to see the fans turn out tomorrow to cheer them on.”

    Ian Hudspeth, leader of Oxfordshire County Council, said: “Saturday was a fantastic day and now we can savour Oxford United’s success some more with the victory parade.”

  10. Stabbing on Cowley Road 'was scary'

    Anerida Coetzee was carrying out her shopping when the stabbing occurred on Cowley Road.

    She said: "There was a bit of a commotion across the street by Sainsbury's corner… then I thought nothing of it… went to Tesco's, shopped, and when I came out the street was all cornered off and I had to walk all the way round.

    "It's quite scary, and it's more scary that the guy hasn't been caught yet. 

    "It's a bit threatening... this is a local place for students and everyone."

  11. BreakingOxford United victory parade announced

    Oxford United will take part in an open-top bus victory parade through Oxford city centre tomorrow.

    The bus parade will travel from Broad Street at 17:00, through George Street, Worcester Street, New Road and Queen’s Street, before arriving in St Aldate’s at 17:30.

    There will then be a civic reception at Oxford Town Hall.    

  12. Man, 18, in life threatening condition following Cowley assault

    An 18-year-old man has been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with life threatening injuries after being assaulted on the Cowley Road.

    South Central Ambulance Service was called to the scene at 14:46, and Thames Valley Police has cordoned off the area and put road closures in place.

    Thames Valley Police has confirmed the man on the Cowley Road was stabbed.

    It added: "The victim has been taken to hospital and is in a serious condition.

    "Cowley Road is closed between Union Street and Princes Street, and James Street is also closed.

    "Diversions are in place for both vehicles and pedestrians."

  15. 'Deep bang' heard before Kerry Reeves shot

    On the night of the shooting Miss Reeves and her friends Craig Pitts and Craig Parslow went looking for Mr Johnson and Mr Noble, Mark Fenhalls QC, prosecuting, told Oxford Crown Court today.

    Repeating the account Mr Pitts gave to police, he said: "He could hear rustling coming from the bushes, and saw two people going around the back of the building. 

    "He heard a loud, deep bang, and the two men ran off. He didn't see their faces as it was dark. 

    "Kerry fell forward and landed on her face, he shone his torch on her and could see blood pouring from her face... he then describes screaming and shouting for help, and asking someone to ring an ambulance." 

  16. Kerry Reeves 'was armed with baseball bat'

    The prosecution said Miss Reeves and her friends had armed themselves with baseball bats and a metal pole on the evening she was shot, while Mr Johnson bragged about carrying a gun. 

    Mark Fenhalls QC said the men ambushed Miss Reeves and her group. 

    He said in the weeks leading up to Miss Reeves' death, there had been tension and trouble between the two defendants and some of her friends.

    The jury has begun hearing the prosecution's case at Oxford Crown Court against two men accused of murdering 26-year-old Kerry Reeves last year.

    Billy Johnson, 20, and Charles Noble, 21, deny carrying out the crime in Abingdon on 3 November last year.

    Mark Fenhalls QC, prosecuting, said in the weeks leading up to Kerry Reeves' death, there had been tension and trouble between the two defendants and some of her friends.

    He told the jury both sides had a background of drugs, alcohol and violence.

  18. Thames Valley Police seeking specialist divers for Ellis Downes search

    Thames Valley Police has blamed "poor visibility" in the Thames as having "hampered" underwater searches for Ellis Downes.

    Officers have been searching since Saturday, working with the fire and rescue service and the Environment Agency.

    Supt Rory Freeman said: “We are seeking support from other forces for a specialist dive team to continue with the search of the river itself.

    “Road closures are in place nearby to allow the search to continue and the river is closed to all boat traffic between Abingdon lock and Culham lock."
