An NHS hospital trust has apologised to a woman who suffered avoidable complications after an ectopic pregnancy.

Jamie Hockey, from Leicester, had to have one of her fallopian tubes removed following a three-day delay in surgery.

This meant she had to have an emergency procedure as it was too late for keyhole surgery. She has been left with a large scar and lost a lot of blood.

She said: "It was a very scary experience."

An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilised egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in one of the fallopian tubes.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust has apologised and said it will learn lessons from this.
