Confession man was mentally ill

Gavin Bevis

BBC Local Live

At her trial, prosecutors said Kerry Holden was the only likely suspect for Luke Moran's murder.

But at last month's Court of Appeal hearing, it was revealed a 21-year-old man had since visited a police station to "confess" to being the killer.

He told officers he had been robbed and, after going home to tell his mum, went out with a knife and was "pretty sure" he had stabbed someone.

But ruling today, Lord Justice Davis said the man had been seriously ill with a form of paranoid schizophrenia when he spoke to police and, since becoming well again, had retracted the confession.

Murder mum's appeal bid rejected

Gavin Bevis

BBC Local Live

A mother who was jailed for murdering a man in Clifton has had her bid to clear her name rejected at the Court of Appeal.

Kerry Holden, 40, was jailed for at least 18 years in 2012 for stabbing 25-year-old Luke Moran to death following a row at a party.

Last month her lawyers told the Court of Appeal another man had since confessed to the killing but today Lord Justice Davis said the "purported previous confession" was "plainly unreliable and incapable of belief".
