    Here's what the two special guests have had to say about the honour of switching on the lights from the Council House balcony...

    Ollie Hynd said: "We’re truly proud to be from such a great sporting county and city, so switching on the Nottingham Christmas lights is a huge honour."

    Charlotte Henshaw said: "We can’t wait to go out into Nottingham and share our success in Rio with everyone, it will be a great night!"

    Nottinghamshire golfer Lee Westwood has a one shot lead at the European Tour's season-ending Tour Championship in Dubai.

  7. Trams suspended during lights switch-on

    During the Christmas lights switch-on there'll be various driving restrictions around the Market Square and pedestrians will only be able to enter the Winter Wonderland through one entrance on Long Row near Debenhams. 

    There'll be a limited capacity in the Winter Wonderland area this year due to the event's increasing popularity.

    Stewards will also control the area around the Brian Clough statue, shutting off access once it's full.

    Trams won't run through the Square from 17:00 to 19:00.

  8. Paralympic stars to turn on Christmas lights

    They made Notts and Team GB proud and now Ollie Hynd and Charlotte Henshaw are switching on Nottingham's Christmas lights on Thursday next week.

    Entertainment kicks off at 17:30 in the Market Square, with the big switch-on taking place at the very precise time of 18:31

    And there'll be a brass band by the Brian Clough statue and fireworks from the roof of the Council House.

    Well pretty soon it'll have a different name - the US owner of the brand has sold the UK arm to British-based Hilco.

    Hilco said it was planning to phase out Staples-branded shops over the coming months.

    Police want to speak to him after a man hit another man on the head with an umbrella (you heard).

    It happened at about 03:45 on Sunday 9 October outside the Hop Merchant Pub in Upper Parliament Street, Nottingham.

  16. Mansfield police employee charged with data offence

    Police said that a member of staff has been charged under the Data Protection Act in an unconnected inquiry.

    Keith Robson, an intelligence analyst based at Holmes House in Mansfield, is alleged to have recklessly disclosed personal data.

    The 58-year-old is also accused of stealing a computer belonging to the force and will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 15 December.

    He has been suspended from work.
