Trust 'concentrating energies' away from full hospitals merger

Calum McKenzie

BBC Local Live

Here is some more from Peter Homa about the end of the road for that possible "full" merger with the troubled Sherwood Forest Trust.

Peter Homa
BBC

"We are now concentrating our energies on Nottingham's challenges and the particular clinical services that are in a more fragile state than Sherwood Forest would want," Mr Homa told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"The staff at Sherwood Forest have done a fantastic job over the last several months and the Care Quality Commission conducted an inspection in July of this year and I would be very hopeful the efforts of staff will be reflected in that."

Hospital merger looking unlikely, chief exec says

Kevin Stanley

Reporter, BBC Radio Nottingham

The boss of Nottingham's two biggest hospitals has hinted that a full merger with the Sherwood Forest Trust may never happen.

The process of the merger has been halted - because the Queens Medical Centre needs to concentrate on waiting times at A and E, and there's continued uncertainty over who will foot a massive private finance bill at Kingsmill Hospital.

Peter Homa told BBC Radio Nottingham that a scaled down "partnership" is now more likely.

Councillor Nick McDonald said: "The number of new businesses opening in Nottingham over the last 12 months, including Pret A Manger on Listergate, is testament to Nottingham's attractiveness as a city in which to do business."

He said: "When you put your squad under the pressure we had, losing James Taylor (pictured left), Alex Hales (pictured right) and Jake Ball for quite a few games, you think you have the squad to cope with that.

"But until you are actually under that pressure and it [the season] proved we don't have that strength in depth or certainly the ability to succeed in those situations."
