Nottinghamshire's Samit Patel and Riki Wessels are being advised by the Professional Cricketer's Association (PCA) not to travel to Bangladesh next month for a T20 competition.

PCA chief executive David Leatherdale said: "The latest advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is that there is a heightened risk of further terrorist attacks against westerners.

"In those circumstances the PCA is advising its members not to travel to Bangladesh to play in the BPL."

Here what the NSPCC has had to say about Juanila Smikle's sentence for child cruelty: 

Smikle’s malicious abuse of her granddaughter led to the discovery that she had mistreated four other children. Now that Smikle has been held to account for her reprehensible behaviour, the events leading up to the tragic death of Shanay Walker must be examined."

Smikle’s sentence was four years for four counts of cruelty to Shanay Walker and three other children who cannot be named, plus a further three years for the new charge.

Her time on remand since December 2014 will count towards the jail term.

Juanila Smikle (pictured) has been jailed for seven years for child cruelty towards five children including schoolgirl Shanay Walker.

Smikle, formerly of  Easegill Court, Top Valley, had been found guilty last month following a retrial at Nottingham Crown Court after she appealed her conviction.

The 55-year-old was also found guilty of a fifth count of child cruelty which was not included in the original trial.

Trio deny illegal hunt charges

Justice secretary vows to protect jail staff

Liz Truss has promised to make Nottingham Prison a safer place by bringing in more officers.

She said: "In the last year there were 5,423 attacks on prison officers. That's almost 15 every day. 

"So I say to prison staff: You do a vital job - keeping our streets safe, supporting and reforming offenders. 

"And I promise you this - I will do everything in my power to protect you."

'Violent' Nottingham jail to get extra staff

The BBC revealed earlier this year that riot squads had been called into the jail on Perry Road more than 30 times since 2012. 

This latest investment will see 400 new officers hired from across the country.

'£2,000 fish are being taken,' council says

Councillor Glynn Gilfoyle from Nottinghamshire County Council has been explaining the scale of the problem regarding stolen fish.  

"It seems anglers are reporting the lack of fish, not just in public waters but also in private fisheries," he told BBC Radio Nottingham. 

"There seems to be an issue around the stealing of fish, in particular, some carp are worth up to £2,000."

The Nottinghamshire driver who died as he drove home from Sutton Bonington to Kingston-on-Soar has been named as 18-year-old Luke Samples.

He played for Coalville Town's U18 side as goalkeeper and the club are planning to hold a minute's silence ahead of their game tomorrow night as a tribute. 

Luke was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Station Street in the early hours of Friday 30 September.
