  14. Why is there a brown magpie at Attenborough?

    Sandish Shoker

    BBC News Online

Tim Sexton from the Attenborough Nature Reserve plumage colouration is not that uncommon in birds so they can appear lighter than normal.

He said the abnormality sometimes put them at a disadvantage because their mutation means they don't live as long and they can be more obvious to predators.

    Tim Sexton

He said: "The condition doesn't appear to be having a negative effect on our magpie and incredibly it would seem that this is the same bird that has been seen at Attenborough, from time to time, for the last 10 years."
