  5. South Northamptonshire Council looking to join up with new Oxfordshire authority

    A devolution deal for Oxfordshire includes a proposal for four new unitary authorities - one of which would include South Northamptonshire Council.

    What is proposed is a Cherwell-South Northants Unitary Authority covering the area currently administered by Cherwell District Council and South Northamptonshire Council.

    The proposal has been sent to government.

  6. Driver pulled free from car in A14 crash

    Five people were injured in a crash involving five cars and two lorries on the westbound A14, about two miles before Catthorpe, this morning.

    A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The driver of a Volvo had been pulled free by members of the public." He was flown to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

    Two other people were taken there, one by another air ambulance, while two men were taken to Kettering General Hospital.

  7. M1 partially blocked northbound at junction 15

    The M1 northbound is partially blocked at junction 15 (Northampton) because of an accident.

  8. Wilder says midfield O'Toole should be back for Hartlepool trip

    I spoke to Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder this morning and he told me midfielder John Joe O'Toole should be back for the trip to Hartlepool on Saturday after missing the 2-1 victory over York with a thigh strain.

    Wilder, whose Cobblers team are 12 points clear at the top of League Two, said he had no fresh injury worries following the York game.

  9. Sixfields work 'beginning' of finishing East Stand but completion 'will take some time'

    Work set to resume on the East Stand at Northampton Town's Sixfields stadium will see 1,924 seats installed before the end of the season.

    But the club have said that "some legal issues that still need to be taken care of" before the stand is completely finished.

    Chairman Kelvin Thomas discussions were ongoing in relation to the next phases of the development, which include a concourse and a possible conference centre.

  10. Hospital has plans to open two new wards to reduce cancelled operations

    Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust has said it had to cancel operations because of "extreme pressure" when it had "more patients than available beds".

    BBC research shows that in January, 75 operations at Northampton's hospital were cancelled the day before they were due to take place, which means they do not count towards the NHS "last-minute" cancellation figures.

    Deborah Needham, chief operating officer of Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust, said the hospital was hoping to build two new wards, with 60 additional beds. If funding can be secured, these will be open before the end of the year.

  13. A14 open eastbound at Catthorpe but still closed westbound

    The eastbound carriageway on the A14 between junction 1 and the Catthorpe interchange has now fully reopened.

    However, westbound between junction 2 and Catthorpe is still closed for barrier repair following an accident this morning, with congestion back to junction 4.

  14. Northampton MP says he will be voting for the UK to remain in the EU

    Up until this morning Northampton South's Conservative MP David Mackintosh was the only one of the county's MPs not to say whether he was voting to stay in the EU or not in this year's referendum...

    He joins Michael Ellis (Northampton North) in voting to remain in the EU.

    Daventry MP Chris Heaton-Harris, Corby MP Tom Prusglove, Wellingborough's Peter Bone, Kettering's Philip Hollobone and South Northants' Andrea Leadsom will all be voting to leave the EU.

  15. India Chipchase inquest opened and adjourned

    The inquest into the death of 20-year-old India Chipchase, from Northampton, has opened and adjourned - with the coroner saying the cause of death was pressure to the neck.

    Opening the hearing at Kettering Magistrates' Court, senior coroner Anne Pember said Miss Chipchase's body was found on 31 January at an address in Stanley Road, Northampton.

    The inquest was adjourned until 17 August.

  16. Cobblers 'fed up' with 'challenging' East Stand

    Kelvin Thomas, the Northampton Town chairman, has said that "everyone at the club is just fed up with looking at that empty stand", as he announced work was going to restart on the East Stand.

    The club will once again be working with the Buckingham Group, which had already carried out much of the previous work, for which it was largely unpaid.

    Mr Thomas, who took over the club in November, said the East Stand had been "more challenging than we would have hoped" but said the capacity would be increased to just under 8,000 before the end of the season.
