  2. Administrators warn of redundancies at Fairline

    Fairline Boats' administrators, FRP Advisory LLP, say they anticipate redundancies "in the near term" although a core team of workers will remain to help sell the business.

    Existing orders will also be "serviced", according to the administrators.

    The company employs around 450 people in Oundle and Corby.

  3. Referrals to Northamptonshire's anti-terrorism unit have doubled

    Northamptonshire Police's anti-terrorism unit says referrals have risen to around 60 so far this year, twice as many as the same time last year.

    So called "soft targets" for terrorists, such as pubs, clubs, restaurants and theatres, are now being given advice on what to do in case of a terrorist attack.

    Dr Mils Hills, associate professor of risk resilience and corporate security at the University of Northampton, said: "We need to be more conscious about remembering where the exits are and what we can do if the power fails."

    Luxury boat builder Fairline, which has factories in Oundle and Corby, has gone into administration.

    Staff have been sent home and told to wait until the administrators have assessed the business.

    Counter-terrorism security advisers are giving town centre venues training about what to do in the event of gun attacks, such as those in Paris.

    Inspectors say a secure training centre near Daventry is improving, but it still has a way to go. Rainsbrook Centre was rated "inadequate" by Ofsted earlier this year.

    The latest report says the centre has made ground but, overall, has a rating of "requires improvement".

  10. Investigation 'continues' into MP's campaign payments

    There seems to be confusion within the Conservative Party over the investigation into campaign payments made to the party of Northampton South MP, David Mackintosh.

    Earlier some local party members told me no action would be taken over the payments - but now a spokesman at Conservative central office has said: "We are still investigating this matter."

    I'm still trying to find out the truth of the matter and will let you know when I hear more.

  11. M1 southbound still closed 13 hours after incident

    The M1 southbound is still closed after an incident at 03:25 in which a man died following a police chase..

    There is queuing traffic and long delays due to the closure between J18 and J16.

    There is also disruption on the M45 eastbound which is closed between J1 and the M1.

  12. Fatal accident victim named

    A woman who died in a road accident between Slipton and Kettering Road at 11:30 on Monday morning has been named by the police.

    Rachel Dewick, 40, from Kettering, was driving a silver/blue Ford Focus towards Kettering Road when there was a collision with a silver/blue Ford Focus-C Max travelling in the opposite direction. 

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

  13. Trading Standards warn against illegally importing puppies

    Northamptonshire Trading Standards wants people who are thinking of buying a dog to be wary of illegally imported puppies.

    Since October, a Slovakian puppy was imported into Northamptonshire and had to be quarantined for 21 days. 

    And recently a dog from Moldova was put into quarantine for four months.

  15. Fairline pensions 'not paid'

    The Unite union is claiming Fairline Boats, which has factories in Oundle and Corby, has not paid its employees' pension contributions for three months.

    The luxury boat builder employs 468 people. It is owned by private equity firm Wessex Bristol who have not yet commented about the claims.

  17. M1 fatality following police chase referred to police complaints commission

    An incident in which a man was killed when he ran across the M1 while trying to escape Northamptonshire Police officers has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

    Traffic diverted off M1 at J16 meets traffic heading north from Northampton

    The man died when he was struck by a vehicle.

    The M1 southbound remains closed while an investigation into what happened takes place. Two lanes of the northbound carriageway are now open.

  18. Police suspect killed trying to run across M1

    A man died in a road traffic collision on the M1 this morning, Northamptonshire Police have revealed.

    Police officers were following a vehicle, which was believed to be stolen, at about 3.25am on the northbound carriageway when it came to a stop on the road.  

    Once the vehicle had stopped the man got out and ran across the road, at which point he was struck by a vehicle on the southbound carriageway and died.
