  2. Weather: A dry but cold New Year's Eve

  3. Puppies stolen from kennels

    Police are appealing for information following the theft of a dog and seven puppies from kennels.

    A Cavalier King Charles spaniel bitch and her four one-week old puppies were taken from kennels in St John's Fen End, near Wisbech, earlier this week.

    Three 10-week-old female pug puppies were also stolen. The dogs are worth several thousand pounds.

  4. Medical centre to pass to a caretaker practice

    A GPs' surgery in Dereham will be passed to a caretaker practice on Monday because of GP recruitment problems.

    In October, the partners of Elmham Surgery and the Walker Gregory practice formed a partnership to take over the management of Toftwood Medical Centre.

    The group has informed patients via its Facebook page that three GPs are leaving. Patients will continue to be cared for by the existing staff and locum GPs until a permanent practice is agreed.

  5. Police search continues at Emneth Hungate

    A search of a property in Emneth Hungate, near Wisbech, is continuing this evening, Norfolk Police has said.

    Officers were called to an address this morning as part of a planned operation, which resulted in a 71-year-old man - understood to be Tony Martin - being arrested in Wisbech on suspicion of possession of an illegal firearm.

    He remains in police custody.

  6. MP calls for safety improvements at scene of fatal accident

    The MP for North West Norfolk says safety improvements are needed at a junction on the A17 where a woman died before Christmas.

    An inquiry into the fatal accident at Terrington St Clement in which 21-year-old Laura Pesterfield died is to be carried out by police and Norfolk County Council.

    Sir Henry Bellingham says they should take a comprehensive look at what happened, ruling nothing out and must make sure that money isn't an object to solving the issues.

  8. Farmer offers land for roundabout

    A farmer who farms either side of the A17 at Terrington St Clement has offered land for a roundabout, following the death of a young woman in an accident last week.

    William Delamore says he's happy to donate his land to the county council, if it would like to build a roundabout.

    Care worker Laura Pesterfield, 21, died in the car crash on 21 December. Two boys, aged five and eight, were seriously injured but have now been released from hospital.

    On a cold, sunny day - the last of 2015 - the Norfolk village of Emneth Hungate was bustling with activity, in stark contrast to its remote and rural surroundings.

    As sheep grazed in the fields opposite, police officers could be spotted along a secluded track.

    I saw four 4x4 police vehicles leave the scene, with a police dog van, a grey police car in Norfolk Constabulary livery and a van with three officers outside parked along the lane.

  11. Tony Martin claimed 'self-defence' at trial

    When Tony Martin was charged with murdering Fred Barras and wounding Brendon Fearon with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, local supporters protested outside the remand hearing.

    At his trial at Norwich Crown Court, in April 2000, Mr Martin argued he had been acting in self-defence, after finding the pair inside his isolated property at Emneth Hungate (pictured).

    He was convicted of murder, and jailed for life, but this was later reduced to manslaughter. He was released from custody in July 2003.

  12. Tony Martin case sparked national debate

    Norfolk farmer Tony Martin became the focus of a national debate during and after his trial for shooting dead a teenager who was burgling his home.

    In August 1999, he opened fire with a shotgun, killing 16-year old Fred Barras and wounding 29-year-old Brendon Fearon after they broke into his isolated farmhouse in Emneth Hungate (pictured), and was subsequently jailed for murder, later reduced to manslaughter.

    The debate centred on a homeowner's rights to use force to defend his property.

  13. Norfolk search follows Cambridgeshire arrest

    After their arrest of a 71-year-old man, understood to be Tony Martin, on suspicion of possession of an illegal weapon, police are searching a property just over four miles away, in the west Norfolk village of Emneth Hungate.
