  3. Woman knocked down by bus in Manchester

    A woman has been taken to hospital after she was knocked down by a bus in Manchester.

    Greater Manchester Police said the woman was hit at about 16:05 in Oxford Road near St Peter's House.

    A police spokesman said her injuries were serious but "not life-threatening".

    The road was closed for just over an hour but has now reopened.

  5. Hammersley leaves Falcons for Sale

    Full-back Simon Hammersley has exercised a relegation release clause to leave Newcastle Falcons and remain in the Premiership with Sale Sharks.

    The 26-year-old went past 100 games for the Falcons this season, and departs having played 103 matches.

    Newcastle were relegated from the Premiership after finishing bottom.

    "We spent a huge amount of time and effort developing him into a quality Premiership player," director of rugby Dean Richards said.

  6. Liverpool investigate five fans over sale of Champions League final tickets

    Liverpool have identified five supporters who have tried to sell their Champions League final tickets on secondary ticketing platforms.

    It comes after opponents Spurs announced they've handed indefinite bans to three of their season ticket holders who did the same.

    The Reds say they will fully investigate five fans who have been found to have listed their tickets online and say lifetime bans from Anfield could follow.

    Selling or offering to sell tickets without the permission of the club is a criminal offence - and the club are warning that fans who do go down this route are not guaranteed to get what they pay for.

  7. Man held over speeding double decker bus

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a double decker bus was seen speeding through Liverpool.

    The red bus, which Merseyside Police believe was stolen, was spotted being driven erratically down Townsend Lane in Anfield at 01:30.

    It was later found damaged in front of a car wash on nearby Queens Drive.

    The man, from Walton and aged 24, was also held on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, damaging a vehicle and driving without a licence or insurance.

  8. Two children injured in house fire

    A blaze which swept through a home left one child with burns and another suffering from smoke inhalation, Lancashire Fire Service has said.

    Firefighters were called to East Park Road in Blackburn at 22:15 on Monday.

    A fire service spokesman said the house's occupants were all outside by the time crews arrived.

    He said the two children were taken to hospital for treatment, along with a man who had also breathed in smoke.

  9. England forward joins Lyon after leaving Man City

    England forward Nikita Parris has joined Women's Champions League winners Lyon after leaving Manchester City.

    Parris, 25, said this month that she would be leaving City when her contract expired this summer.

    She was named the Football Writers' Association's Women's Footballer of the Year and helped the club to the FA Cup and League Cup this season.

    Lyon won the Champions League for a fourth successive season with a 4-1 win over Barcelona.

  10. Appeal after jogger found collapsed in Runcorn

    A jogger is in a serious condition in hospital after being found collapsed in Runcorn this morning.

    The man was found by a member of the public on the towpath of the Bridgewater Canal, near to Astmoor Industrial Estate, at about 06:45.

    Cheshire Police said he was not carrying any identification, but was thought to be in his 50s, white and about 5ft 11ins tall with grey hair and a white beard.

    He was wearing a bright orange T-shirt and has a number of distinctive tattoos.

    He was taken to Warrington District General Hospital, where he is in a serious condition.

    Anyone who may know the identity of the man is asked to contact Cheshire Police.

  12. Premier League clubs 'fail to cash in on stadium rights'

    Premier League football clubs are missing out on millions of pounds in stadium naming rights, a report says.

    Financial advisors Duff & Phelps say "clubs are not utilising naming rights revenue to their full potential".

    Only 30% of top flight teams have a stadium sponsor, compared with more than 80% in American football's NFL.

    The six 2018-19 season teams with a stadium sponsor were Bournemouth, Arsenal, Brighton, Huddersfield Town, Leicester City and Manchester City.

    The report estimates the most valuable stadium asset to be Manchester United's Old Trafford ground, worth a potential £26.75m a season to the club.

  14. Two held in pub attack murder probe

    Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man who died after he was attacked in a pub.

    Gavin Brown, 29, died in hospital on 20 April after suffering serious injuries at the Melville Hotel in Stretford, Greater Manchester, on 12 April.

    The men, aged 58 and 71, are in police custody and are expected to be questioned by detectives later.

    Det Insp Dave Jones said the force had an "absolute commitment" to establish what happened.

  15. Everton Ladies boss plans up to eight new signings

    Everton Ladies hope to sign between six and eight new players this summer, says manager Willie Kirk.

    After their 10th-place finish this term, the Toffees have finished second from bottom in the Women's Super League for two consecutive seasons.

    The WSL transfer window opens on 14 June for 12 weeks.

    "We're going to have six or seven departures and we'll bring in six, seven or possibly eight players," Kirk told BBC Sport.

  17. Hundreds held in county lines crackdown

    Nearly 600 suspected members of county lines drugs gangs have been arrested across the UK in the past week, the National Crime Agency has said.

    500 men and 86 women were arrested in raids in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cheshire, Bedfordshire and other areas.

    Police forces led by the National County Lines Coordination Centre also seized cocaine worth £176,780; £312,649 in cash; and 46 weapons.

    County line drugs gangs - linked by a network of mobile phone lines and often coercing children and vulnerable adults - travel out of their usual urban territory and into rural areas to sell drugs.

    The NCA estimates there are about 2,000 city-based gangs - mostly from London, Birmingham and Merseyside - exploiting young people to sell drugs in smaller towns.

  18. From being bullied in school to playing for St Helens

    From being bullied for daring to dream about playing for St Helens, to scoring a hat-trick for the club on his Super League debut - Josh Taylor has proved to be one very determined teenager.

    Taylor is a hard-running, energetic, home-grown Saints rookie who wears the red and white 'V' on his chest with the sort of pride that only a lifelong fan of the club can appreciate.

    The 18-year-old is also autistic.

    But his condition will not stop him from achieving his life's ambition, as he is one of the inaugural members of Saints' learning disability rugby league team, which plays in the Community Integrated Care Super League.

  19. Manchester Arena bomb survivor made mindfulness ambassador

    A teenager who survived the Manchester Arena bombing has been made a youth ambassador for a mindfulness charity.

    Emily Brierley, then aged 15, was in the concourse area when Salman Abedi detonated a device in May 2017.

    Emily, from Huddersfield, said mindfulness had been "a very vital component" in helping her cope with the trauma of the attack.

    The Mindfulness in Schools Project says she is an "inspirational role model" for other youngsters.

  20. Batsman 'headbutted' bowler during cricket match

    A batsman has been suspended over claims he headbutted a bowler who got him out during a heated cricket match.

    Eccleston Cricket Club tweeted that there were "shocking scenes" after the opposition batsman was given out caught behind on Sunday.

    The Lancashire cup game was abandoned and Merseyside's Rainhill Cricket Club have suspended their player.

    The police are not thought to have been called but an investigation has been launched by the local cricket board.
