  5. Man, 85, beaten and robbed at knifepoint

    An 85-year-old man has been tied up, beaten and robbed at knifepoint in his home in Wigan.

    Glenbranter Avenue, Ince

    Two men broke in to the house in Glenbranter Avenue, Ince in the early hours of this morning.

    They escaped with cash, cigarettes and alcohol.

    The man's in hospital with his injuries, Greater Manchester Police said.

  6. Seventh man held in murder investigation

    A seventh man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Miguel Reynolds in Sefton last year.

    Mr Reynolds, from Manchester, was fatally shot in Assissian Crescent, Netherton, Sefton in June 2018.

    Six men were charged with his murder last week.

    Merseyside Police said a 28-year-old man, from Netherton, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to rob.

  8. Hospital 'missed' chances to help baby

    A baby with meningitis died after a hospital "missed opportunities" to diagnose him, an inquest has found.

    Royal Oldham Hospital

    Muhammed Harris Mahmood died on 10 October 2015, four days after being taken to Royal Oldham Hospital with vomiting and lethargy.

    His parents said their "concerns were brushed aside" by health professionals.

    The coroner concluded neglect contributed to the one-year-old's death and said Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust accepted it missed chances to help him.

  10. Man jailed for shop stab murder

    A man has been jailed for life for the "senseless" stabbing of man in a convenience store.

    Keith Harris, 43, died after being attacked with a kitchen knife at the Premier shop in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester on 15 August last year.

    Michael Long, 36, who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time, was given a minimum of 25 years in jail at Manchester Crown Court.

    He was caught by police after being involved in a crash with three cars.
