Cheshire PCC to ask views on policing

Cheshire's Police and Crime Commissioner says he will ask people in the county what level of policing they would like to pay for as part of a consultation on raising council tax. 

David Keane says they need to increase the precept just to stand still and that the government is recommending an increase of 2% to keep in line with current budgets.

Public consultation events are running across Cheshire throughout January.

Woman, 23, let dogs starve to death in 'horrendous' neglect case

A woman who left two of her dogs to starve to death has been banned from keeping animals for life.

Andrea Davies, 23, from Cherry Lane in Walton, Liverpool, admitted causing unnecessary suffering and failing to meet the needs of her two male crossbreed dogs.

Liverpool magistrates described the case as one of the most "horrendous cases of animal neglect they had seen".   

She was also sentenced to 16 weeks in prison suspended for 18 months, ordered to attend a 20 day rehabilitation program and she will be electronically tagged for 16 weeks as part of a curfew order.

She was also ordered to pay £650 costs.

'Cash-strapped' Liverpool Women's Hospital could move

A specialist £30m hospital that opened 21 years ago could move to a new site amid claims its current services are not affordable.

The Liverpool Women's Hospital Trust said it would consult on four options, also saying patient needs had changed.

Its preference is for a new hospital next to the new Royal Liverpool Hospital, just over a mile away.

Other options are a new hospital at Alder Hey and either a major or minor upgrade to the current site.

The Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust said no decision had been made about the hospital's future and people would have the opportunity to comment in a full public consultation.

Football: Everton sell training ground name rights

Everton have secured a "high-value" naming rights deal for their training complex with a company founded by Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov.

Usmanov is a close business associate of Everton's major shareholder Farhad Moshiri and his company, USM Holdings, has struck a five-year agreement to rename the complex USM Finch Farm.

It is one of two deals worth a total of £75m revealed by chief executive Robert Elstone at the club's AGM this week.

The other is for shirt sponsorship.

Rail: Rail replacement bus service between Birkenhead and Liverpool

The Wirral loop line works started this week which means there is no service on Merseyrail between Birkenhead Central and Liverpool Lime Street, and between Birkenhead North and Liverpool Lime Street.

A replacement bus service is running at Liverpool Moorfields, at Liverpool Lime Street and between Birkenhead Central and Birkenhead North.

Man found unconscious in Liverpool city centre 'injured in fall'

A man found unconscious with serious head injuries in Liverpool City Centre may have been hurt in a fall, police have said.

He was taken to the Royal Hospital this morning after being discovered on Lime Street near to the Empire Theatre.

Police have now studied CCTV from the area and don't think anyone else was involved in causing his injuries.

The man, in his 40s, remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Two Liverpool men arrested in organised crime probe

Two men have been arrested and £50,000 worth of illegal drugs recovered as part of a probe into organised criminals from the north of England.

It followed raids on properties in Inverness and Liverpool.

Police said a 20-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both from the Liverpool area, were expected to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court.

The investigation earlier resulted in £180,000 worth of heroin and cocaine being recovered in Scotland.

Liverpool fans nominated for Fifa's 'outstanding' moment award

Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund fans have been nominated for a new Fifa Fan Award which recognises an "outstanding fan moment or gesture".

It follows their show of solidarity for victims of the Hillsborough disaster at last year's quarter final Europa League games at Anfield.

The game came a day before the 27th anniversary of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster. Both sides put aside their rivalry to sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" together.

The winner of the Fifa Fan Award will be announced at a ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland, on Monday.

A man has been found with serious head injuries in Liverpool city centre.

Paramedics were called just before 01:30 after a man in his 40s was found unconscious near to the Empire Theatre in Lime Street.

He is currently being treated in hospital where his condition is described as serious.

Forensic teams are now at the scene and an investigation is under way.

Murder charge after New Brighton assault victim dies

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a man attacked outside a nightclub on Boxing Day.

Christopher Cousins is accused of attacking Zac Wells near Evo's Loft nightclub, New Brighton, Merseyside, at about 03:45 on 26 December.

Mr Wells, 30, of Wallasey, suffered head injuries in the incident. He died in hospital on Wednesday.

Mr Cousins, 29, from Poulton, is due to appear at Wirral Magistrates' Court later.

A man was abducted from his home and assaulted by a masked gang in a "targeted" attack in Liverpool, say police.

The victim, aged in his 30s, was assaulted by four or five men who entered his home in Montrose Road, Tuebrook, through a rear patio door at about 20:30 on Wednesday.

He was then forced into a Range Rover and later dumped at Bootle Docks, Merseyside Police said.

The victim was treated for injuries to his leg and face in hospital.

The vehicle was later located in Church Walk, Bootle and has been recovered for analysis.

Police believe the attack was targeted and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
