Liverpool's Turner Prize houses sold with 'anti-gentrification' clause

The first houses to be sold through a Turner Prize-winning renovation scheme have been given "anti-gentrification" clauses so locals can afford them.

Design group Assemble won the art award in 2015 for their work regenerating derelict houses in Toxteth, Liverpool.

Three houses have been sold for £90,000 each, with locals given priority and a condition added saying they must always be sold at an "affordable" price.

This year's Turner Prize winner will be announced in London on Monday evening.

New Operation Resolve chief to hand over Hillsborough evidence 'by turn of the year'

The new leader of the criminal investigation into the 1989 Hillsborough disaster has said he is committed to ensuring files are passed to the Crown Prosecution Service "by the turn of the year".

New Operation Resolve lead Rob Beckley, a former deputy chief constable of Avon and Somerset Police, replaces Jon Stoddart, who resigned due to health issues in September.

Mr Beckley said he would like to pay tribute to his predecessor and the work of the team so far.

He added: “My first priority will be to ensure that our case files are submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service by the turn of the year. From what I have seen so far it looks like we are on track to meet that deadline."

The aim of Operation Resolve is to undertake a thorough investigation into the events leading up to the day of the 1989 football stadium tragedy as well as the disaster itself, including the planning and preparation for the match and individual decision making.

Fire investigators are trying to identify precisely what materials were burned in the blaze at the facility, which handles hazardous waste.

MP Luciana Berger has told a jury she "felt sick" when she saw a string of hate-filled anti-Semitic blogs describing her as a "rat" and an "evil money grabber".

Merseyside teams in the mix for FA Cup third-round draw

The FA Cup third-round draw is live on the BBC on Monday evening, as Premier League and Championship teams enter the action for the first time.

The draw, which will be made by former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright, can be seen on BBC Two at 19:00 GMT.

The 32 third-round ties will be played across the weekend of 6-9 January 2017.

Everton are ball number 16 in the draw, while Liverpool are number 23.

New head of Operation Resolve appointed

A new leader has been appointed to head up the criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.

The BBC understands the new head of Operation Resolve is senior police officer Rob Beckley, a former deputy chief constable of Avon and Somerset Police.

His most recent role was chief operating officer of the College of Policing.

He replaces Jon Stoddart, who resigned due to health issues in September.

Dock body is Merseyside woman aged in her 30s

A body pulled from the water at the docks in Liverpool has been identified and her family informed, Merseyside Police said.

The woman, aged in her 30s, is from the local area and her death is not being treated as suspicious.

The force said she was found was in the Canning Half Tide Dock, pictured, and not Albert Dock as originally stated.

An investigation is continuing to find out what kind of materials have been burned in a fire at a waste recycling plant in Prescot.

Firefighters remain at the scene of the blaze at Remondis on Carr Lane, which started at about 06:00 GMT on Sunday.

Fire crews have found "containers filled with oily rags" at the warehouse, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) said.

Residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed although the Environment Agency say it hasn't been necessary to monitor air quality.

The site holds an environmental permit for the treatment, storage, transfer and disposal of hazardous waste.

The Chelsea fan, who's originally from New York, is now based in Liverpool and says she goes to "as many games as I can".

Writing on her instagram page, she added: "But like seriously, I rep Chelsea everywhere I go! What would you expect me to wear?"
