  3. Paul Nuttall: UKIP 'must reach compromise to survive'

    North west MEP and UKIP leadership contender Paul Nuttall has said the party "is on the edge of oblivion" and that the party "won't be around much longer" if infighting continues

    In an interview with BBC Wales, Mr Nuttall also said the recent incident involving MEPs Steven Woolfe and Mike Hookem made the party look "a shambles". 

    But he added it could be a "good thing" in the long run, as it served as a "wakeup call" for UKIP to come together.

  4. Salford man charged with murder over Liverpool shop death

    A man has been charged with murder of the death of a Salford man in a Liverpool charity shop.

    Victor Alexandrov Maroukian died after being injured at the Remar UK shop on Aigburth Road on Wednesday afternoon.

    Mr Maroukian's family said he was a man "with strong Christian beliefs, who had been working as a volunteer for five years [and] always want to help other people". 

    Boyan Antonov, 28, of Great Clowes Street, Salford, is due to face a charge of murder at Liverpool Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

  5. Football: Reds' cup tie with Leeds United chosen for TV

    Liverpool's forthcoming EFL quarter final tie against Leeds United has been selected for television coverage.

    The match, which kicks off at 19:45 on 29 November will be shown on Sky Sports.

    A lengthy stint outside the top flight for Leeds means the sides have met just once in the past 12 years – a League Cup clash at Elland Road in September 2009 (pictured).

    Former player Gary McAllister, who has represented both sides, has told Liverpool's club website why he thinks it's such a special tie. 

  6. Police search for Wirral man after court no-show

    Police are searching for a Merseyside man who has not been traced since failing to attend a court hearing in Durham almost five months ago.

    Alan Badley, from Wirral, has been charged with offences including assault and making threats to kill.

    Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact Merseyside Police.

  8. Convicted robber wanted on recall to prison

    Police are searching for a convicted robber who is wanted on recall to prison after breaching the terms of his release.

    Justin Quinn, of Old Swan, Liverpool, was sentenced to six years behind bars in 2006 and was later released on licence.

    Merseyside Police have urged anyone who knows of his whereabouts to contact them.

  10. Woman hurt in Crosby crash

    A woman has been taken to hospital after she was hit by a car in Merseyside.

    Merseyside Police is warning drivers to avoid the area of College Road in Crosby following the incident, which happened at about 13.20. 

    Merseyside Police said the woman's condition was unknown.

  12. 'Is it allowed for me to say I like Alex Ferguson?' - Liverpool boss

    Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp seems happy with the praise given to his side from former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson who described them on Thursday as serious title challengers.

    "Is it allowed for me to say I like Alex Ferguson?," said Klopp. "I met him before I was Liverpool manager. Nice for him to say something positive."  

    The Reds of Merseyside are third in the table, level on points with leaders Manchester City. 

  13. Wirral Council defends decision to cancel bonfire events

    Wirral Council is defending its decision to cancel six community bonfire events and postpone two more so it can support a joint display with Liverpool on the Mersey.

    It has caused an outcry among communities, who say that the events in parks were introduced to cut injuries to people staging their own firework displays at home. 

    The council says all available stewards and first aiders will be along the river banks.

    The River of Light display will take place on 5 November on the River Mersey.

  17. Spurned lover jailed over homemade bombs

    A man who went to a love interest's home armed with two homemade bombs and a knife has been jailed.

    Craig Cooke was arrested in Huyton, Merseyside, on 15 December 2015.

    The 24-year-old claimed he had intended to use the Molotov cocktails to "scare" a man who rejected his advances after they met online, prosecutors said.

    Cooke, of Hartsbourne Avenue in Belle Vale, admitted making and possessing an explosive and possession of a bladed article at Liverpool Crown Court.
