  3. Football: Liverpool await draw for EFL Cup quarter finals

    Reds fans will be watching tonight's EFL Cup fixtures with interest as they wait to find out their team's opponents in the quarter finals.

    Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 in the fourth round last night, with Arsenal, Leeds United, Hull and Newcastle also progressing.

    Tonight will see Manchester United go up against Manchester City, West Ham face Chelsea and Southampton meet Sunderland.

    The draw for the quarter finals will follow the conclusion of the Manchester derby.

  4. Liverpool suspected murders 'not linked'

    Merseyside Police's assistant chief constable has moved to reassure residents in Aigburth after two suspected murders in three days, insisting the deaths were not linked.

    Officers are investigating the shooting death of Blake Brown, who died on Monday night, and a man was arrested on suspicion of murder after another man died in a furniture store earlier.

    Assistant chief constable Nikki Holland said: “I understand that people living and working in Aigburth will be concerned about two very serious incidents happening in such a close proximity in such a short space of time but I want to reassure people that these incidents are not linked and we are doing everything we can to investigate the full circumstances around what happened.

    “In relation to the incident on Aigburth Road this afternoon the man who died has yet to be formally identified and a post mortem will take place tomorrow to establish a cause of death."

    The Knowsley-born singer says the "typical media" is trying to cause a feud and she's getting fed up of it.

    "I am sick of the media accusing me of slamming @LittleMix. I love them and will always support them," she tweeted.

    "The over sexualisation of children is not the fault of young women.

    "Typical of the media trying to pitch us against each other."

    A man who was shot dead in Liverpool has been described as "caring, helpful and charismatic" by his family.

    Blake Brown, 30, of Croxteth, died in hospital after suffering gunshot wounds to the head in Southwood Road, Aigburth, on Monday.

    Two 22-year-old men from Croxteth have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    Paying tribute, sister Stacey Brown said her brother was "the heart and soul" and "a proud uncle".

  8. Murder arrest after man dies at Aigburth furniture shop

    A man has died after being injured at a furniture shop in Aigburth.

    The man was pronounced dead at Remar UK Furniture on Aigburth Road at about 12:55 after police received reports of a male being injured.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police say the incident is not related to the shooting of Blake Brown on the same road on Monday night,

    Two 22-year-old men from Croxteth have been arrested on suspicion of murder over the shooting of Blake Brown in Aigburth on Monday.

    The 30-year-old died in hospital after suffering gunshot wounds to the head in Southwood Road on Monday night.

    One of the men being held has also been arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis, cultivation of cannabis and money laundering.

    The aim is to build a picture of how the country can meet air quality targets, reducing the amount of pollutants that are harmful to human health.

  13. St Helens war veteran urges consideration for people suffering PTSD on Bonfire Night

    A war veteran from St Helens - who lost three limbs in an explosion in Afghanistan - is urging people to be considerate of those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder in the run-up to Bonfire Night. 

    Andy Reid was injured in 2009 when he stepped on an explosive on patrol in Helmand province. 

    Last year, he had a firework thrown at him in Rainford Village, where he owns a cafe.

    He wasn't hurt in the incident - but says there are others who may have reacted differently.

  16. Three men arrested after Huyton house search

    Merseyside Police have arrested three men - and seized ammunition, drugs and cash - as part of their investigations into firearms incidents.

    A 22-year-old man is being held, after 40 rounds of ammunition and suspected crack cocaine and heroin were discovered during a search of a property in Huyton. 

    Two other men were taken into custody when they were stopped in their cars in Croxteth and Southport.
