  7. South Yorkshire Police Chief Constable to be pushed to resign

    South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Billings says he is standing by his call on the Chief Constable David Crompton to resign.

    Mr Crompton was suspended in April after releasing a statement about the Hillsborough disaster.   

    He says he will take legal action over Dr Billings' actions.

    A statement from Mr Crompton's solicitors says he believes the decision to be fundamentally wrong and he will shortly be commencing judicial review proceedings in the High Court in order to challenge Dr Billings.

  11. Dashcam footage appeal after teenager seriously hurt in Burscough crash

    Police investigating a collision which left a teenager with serious injuries are appealing to anyone who may have dashcam footage to come forward.

    Georgia Addy, 14, was hit by a white Mercedes Sprinter Van on Moss Lane in Burscough at around 15:45 last Wednesday. 

    She was air lifted to Alder Hey with head injuries - and has now regained consciousness. 

    Officers are keen to hear from any drivers who have dash cam recorders that may have passed through the area between 14:00 - 16:00 on the day of the collision.

  13. Teenager from St Helens missing

    A 15-year-old boy from St Helens has been reported missing.

    Leon Johnson aka Leon Hide

    Leon Johnson, also known as Leon Hide, was last seen in St Helens town centre on Tuesday and also has links to Newton-Le-Willows and Wigan.

    He has a graze under his left eye and was last seen wearing a grey tracksuit top and navy tracksuit bottoms and black shoes.

  14. Football: Anfield expansion may be shelved, says Henry

    Liverpool's owner says plans to further expand Anfield may not go ahead over fears about the fans' response to ticket price rises.

    In February thousands of Liverpool fans protested against plans to charge £77 for some tickets in the club's new main stand.

    "Ticket prices are an issue in England," said Henry. "That may foreclose further expansion."

    Liverpool's redeveloped main stand has increased Anfield's capacity to 54,074.

  16. Birkenhead lorry driver jailed for causing a mother's death

    A lorry driver who caused a mother's death by his dangerous driving has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

    Natalie Thorpe, 29, died when she was hit by a metal stabiliser extending out of the side of William Stewart's truck in Altrincham in June 2015.

    The 25-year-old from Birkenhead will serve half of his sentence and be banned from driving for five years upon his release.

    Stewart was convicted following a trial at Preston Crown Court in August.

    Tom George, from St Helens, has written and produced a short movie after being inspired by spending time in a hospital waiting room with his wife when she was going through a health scare. 

    He hopes to raise funds with all profits to Whiston and St Helens' hospitals charities.

  19. Football: Sakho makes Reds return with U23s

    Mamadou Sakho

    Mamadou Sakho makes his return to action for Liverpool by playing in an Under-23s match with Wolfsburg on Wednesday.

    The France international had not played for the Reds at any level since April, when it emerged he had tested positive for a type of fat burner the previous month.

    The case was later dismissed by European football's governing body.

    Sakho played the full 90 minutes at Prenton Park as Liverpool lost 2-1.
