    The three boxers did not attempt to manipulate the outcome of any fights.

  7. Police find sawn-off shotgun in car boot

    A sawn-off shotgun has been found in the boot of a suspected stolen car in Toxteth.

    Police are conducting forensic tests on the weapon after finding it in the vehicle in Belvidere Road at about 10:00 on Tuesday.

    Det Insp Cheryl Rhodes encouraged anyone with information about "where weapons are being stored" to get in contact.

    Jeremy Corbyn praised the Hillsborough campaigners in his speech to the Labour conference in Liverpool this afternoon.

    He said he wanted to "pay tribute to all the families and campaigners, for their solidarity, their commitment and their love."

  13. Second day of phone line problems for Liverpool GP surgeries

    Fifteen GP surgeries in Liverpool are are experiencing a second day of problems with their phone lines, leaving some patients unable to get through. 

    Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group says the issues are down to a Virgin Media fault.

    The group recommends people use their practice's online system to book an appointment or, if urgent, contact NHS 111.

  14. 'Promote more women to top fashion jobs' - retailer George Davies

    Veteran retailer George Davies has called for more women to be appointed to top jobs in British fashion.

    Mr Davies, born in Crosby and founder of clothing retailer Next and behind the George at Asda label, says more needs to be done to promote women to director level.

    Women "have more vision than men" and their promotion would help boost firms, he told BBC Radio 4's You and Yours.

    Campaigners Women in Retail welcomed his call, saying retail was often still a "boys' club".

  15. 'Dirty' care home residents 'at risk of malnutrition', inspectors find

    A care home in Ellesmere Port has been rated "inadequate" after inspectors found it to be "visibly unclean" with residents "at risk of malnutrition".

    Atherton Lodge on Pooltown Road was placed in special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following unannounced inspections in August.

    The CQC said the home had "a lack of sustained leadership" leading to "weak and ineffective" governance.

    The home said "significant changes" have been made since the visit.

  16. Andy Burnham pushes for 'Hillsborough Law' at party conference

    Andy Burnham has used his speech at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool to push for a so-called Hillsborough Law.

    The Shadow Home Secretary told delegates at the arena and convention centre that victims' families should be given the same funding as public authorities at inquests.

    Mr Burnham also announced he's leaving the shadow cabinet to focus on his bid to become the metro mayor for Greater Manchester. 

    He said he had "given his all" to the party - and had "always put its interests above those of factions and personalities".

  18. Man arrested over Wirral rape after BBC Crimewatch appeal

    A man has been arrested over a rape in Wirral after an appeal featured on BBC One's Crimewatch programme.

    An 18-year-old woman was attacked in an alleyway in Borough Road on 28 September 2015.

    The 32-year-old is being questioned in relation to the rape, police said.

    A funeral is being held for a doorman who died in a stabbing.

    A service is taking place at St John's Church in Ravenhead, St Helens.  

    A 20-year-old man from Stockbridge Village has been charged with murder.
